Re: Preferred tire supplier 1941

Continuing on the tire topic, how long do you guys go between purchasing new sets? I assume that your cars don't accumulate thousands of miles a year and wear away the tread (I could be wrong), so at what age do you replace your tires?

Preferred tire supplier 1941

Was there any specific OEM manufacturer used for WWW tires for the 1941 model year or was it much like today where the tire supplier changed over the course of the year?

I am looking to replace the WWWs on my 1941 7 Passenger Sedan and I am looking at the Coker Firestone bias ply which is nice but I'm not sure how I feel about the raised lettering in the white wall, and the Coker BF Goodrich bias ply which appears to be less gaudy. If Firestone was OEM, I'll probably go with that. If there was no specific OEM supplier I'll probably go with the Goodrich.

1941 180 Owner's Manual
Home away from home

I recently obtained a 1941 180 7 Passenger Sedan to keep my 37 Sport Coupe company in the garage. The prior owner included Motor Manuals, Flat Rate Manuals and a 1941 Packard Preliminary Shop Manual that includes Custom Super Eight One-Eighty Models 1906-1907-1908. I have looked at the Packard Literature and Manuals link on this site but I do not find anything that specifically says it is an Owner's Manual. This Preliminary Shop Manual reads and looks an awful lot like my 1937 Packard Six Operation and Maintenance Data Manual. Is this 1941 version in fact the Owner's Manual? It has almost all of the same type of useful information that the earlier manual has, but the different name is the cause for my confusion.

Thanks Guscha for the compliment on the new addition to the two car stable. It's looooong and huge. It was never on my radar, yet there it is.

Thank you very much. That is exactly the kind of thing I have been looking for. Not sure why it has been so difficult to find, but you have made my life a lot easier.

I'm having a difficult time finding the overall width and length of a 1941 180 7 Passenger Sedan. Does anyone have this info they can provide? Trying to see if I can provide storage for it in my space.

How is this link to a different page advertising the show?

https://autocarshow.events/carshows/devereaux-kaiser-car-meet/

Not sure why Gusha got a forbidden message, and not sure why Roger only got the chili pictures as the page advertises the show at the top of the page and the chili event further down the page.

Also, Tinman, did I see your car at the Sarasota Club gathering in November?

1937 Six transmission
Home away from home

Based on a past thread or two here and over on the AACA forums, I went to Tractor Supply today and purchased a bottle of "Traveller Ford Tractor All Mineral Oil 90 Transmission Fluid". I helped my father years ago when he added gear oil after removing the floor boards of the car. It had been very low and needed more but it was some standard gear oil to the best of my recollection. My question is should I drain what is currently in there before I add the new oil and if so, how?

I know I usually have some pretty basic questions, and I try to do my homework by looking in my physical copies of the Motors Manual that covers 1937 and the Packard Operation And Maintenance Data as well as the Shop Manual on this site, but sometimes they take for granted that I should have more practical knowledge than I really do.

I was in NAPA the other day and asked them how far back their interchanges went for just this reason. I inquired if they listed the spark plugs for a 37 Packard six. They had them listed down to the model and a choice of two manufacturers of plugs. I know one was Champion and I think the other was AutoLite. They were available but had to be ordered.
