To balance, or not to balance. That is the question...

Hi,
I have two 49 motors that I am going to have rebuilt. ...a 50 23rd 327cu and a 49 23rd 288cu. (grandfather's car). I talked to the machine shop that I will have do the work. I asked them if they can balance the engines. They said that they don't usually do it, but they can. Has anyone had engines rebuilt? ...and if so, have you had them balancedd. After I have them rebuilt, I would like to stand a quarter on it's edge while the engine is running. Thanks, Mark

Coolant sys. pressure tester for a '49 22nd series...

Hi all,
I have a '49 23rd series. I picked up an OEM (brand) pressure tester (from Pep Boys)to test my current car. I also used it to test the Packard. ...albeit with a double rubber washer as it has a deep neck in the radiator. My question is what is anyone using to test their radiator caps? This unit doesn't have a deep enough adapter to test the old caps. I have tried to use the Craftsman brand tester. But that tester has a blow-up bladder that just doesn't seem to work as expected. I had to run the test about 6 times until successful. That was on a vehicle that I knew didn't have a leak. Just a little background on my Packard. I have a 327cu. with a cracked block. The crack is located on the driver's side under the drain cock right in front of the starter. Thanks, Mark

Ok. So basically everyone is using a cleaner. Except for lacquer thinner. I would think that would be harsh on the rubber. After doing some cleaning, I will give that a try on a small spot.
Thanks everyone! Mark

Hi all,
I did a quick search, but didn't find anything. Forgive me if I missed something. What does everyone use to keep their WW's bright/clean. I have a pair that are greasy and starting to yellow, so I'd like to rescue them. Thanks! Mark

When I had purchased tires (from coker) I said that I had a set of Denman (I think) tires on the car. The rep at Coker said that they manufactured tires for Denman. I wonder if that is true for Diamond Back also.
...although the rep could have been lying to me too, I guess. I'm just saying that just because the name or packaging is different, the manufacturer could be the same. Mark

Do you need to worry about any body flex? ...like not being able to open the doors. (not that you would need to) I'm assuming that the only flex you may get is the rockers moving inward or outward slightly, if at all.

I'll have to dig thru my periodicals from the clubs. I could've sworn that I saw a promotional picture showing a 1948 Henney 127in WB. This one also had the vinyl top.
Thanks, Mark

How to identify a 1949 Henney...

I had come accross a 1949 seven passenger super-8. I was told that it was a Henney. It had a vinyl top and a leather or naugahyde interior.
How can you tell that it is a Henney and not just added and re-upholstered? Thanks, Mark
