Thanks Fred. 42 psi will probably make my martini "shaken not stirred".

"I was told to keep the air pressure at 42. So, I put on the steel valves and was very pleased. The tires rarely need additional air. I will start using them for all my cars!!"

Rscott77x,
I'm curious who suggested the 42 PSI? Is it to make the steering easier, if so, does the 42 PSI refer to the front tires only? Or, what advantage do you find running 42 PSI in all four tires it would make my cars feel like it is running over railroad ties I use 32 psi as it is.

Steve
both my Series 24 and 26 (1951 and 1953) packards have had tubeless Coker tires for the last 20 years. I used steel valve stems when the tires were first mounted and they are still in service. Hope this helps.

Hello NDpacMan,
If what you have described is all the information you have about the car I'm pretty sure your ?'s are unanswerable. About the only way you'll get info is to trace/contact prior owners. There might be receipts, notes supplied with the car to at least get you to the last owner.
Perhaps someone else has a few suggestions. Hope this helps.

Regards
Steve

Re-cored the rad in my 1951 Packard 200 one year ago. Using the original tanks the cost was just under $900.00 US. but now on long drives and hot weather occasions the temp is always below the middle of the temp gauge and, to me, the cost is a good trade off for the peace of mind. Additionally, I did remove the water tube and flush the engine and my water pump rebuilt locally.

If I understand the operation and reason for the heat riser valve why would you wire the valve closed VS open?

Testing the brake springs. I have found that if you drop a spring on concrete flooring (not wood, or floor coverings) a good spring will go 'THUD' and a bad spring will go "TING" I learned that from a shop instructor in the 50"s. For what's it's worth.
