The Customs were low production which makes sense as they were top of the line!! Grab that specimen. Its glorious 356 9 main bearing engine was just rebuilt..49K original miles.

I had a problem similar to yours. My car started cold but not when hot. After weeks of frustration, I discovered it was the ignition switch.

When I looked at the instructions for rebuilding my Carter carburetor on my 47 it appeared that one needed a lot of tools which were graduated to minuscule small diameters. I did not want to buy a set of these micro tools so I just sent mine to Daytona carburetor and they did a great job.
Frankly, I don't see how a home mechanic can rebuild a carburetor correctly after reading those instructions. But, I am one of those people that knows just enough to be dangerous.

I had a hot start problem on my 47 Clipper and found it was the ignition switch.

The car was rewired so congested under there. But, as I do yoga twice a week, I can get under there!!!
Thanks!!

A good thing to try...I am assuming I need to remove the instrument board? Any info? Is anything published?

I ran the test by grounding the field coil temporarily. The "genny" is hot! The meter pegged. So, cursing the voltage regulator, quietly.
Another factor is: I did put in a 6v Optima. As the voltage regulator is mechanical, I thought the Optima would not be an issue. Was I right?? Cleaning the points tomorrow...what saint should I address in my prayers?? A powerful heathen saint would suit just as well....

I have had this same question. Since it does not function as a volt meter, I just call it an ammeter. Close enough!!
