any chance of posting a picture of the offending part. I only ask because I have an unidentified postwar cross shaft - any also any other folks with parts/parts cars may need to confirm. Have you tried Joel Ray packards1@aol.com ?

I LIKE this new guy. Heat and Impact. 3 rounds in a 60 minute winner take all match. Now all we need is for Tom to get a certain 359 unstuck...

Just because I'm in a sarcastic mood, I will disagree with the expurts. I say use heat, and a lot of it, and be sure to use at least a 2lb. Hammer. Why such technique, you wonder? Well, for one, I'm not known to be the most patient guy, and second, I have a really nice undamaged V12 oil pan I'd love to sell.

Truthfully, I agree with prior posts. Don't go anywhere near that pan with anything more than patience and whatever wizard snot your local Packard Fortune Saver recommends. Don't even go near it if impatient or in a bad mood.

Beginning with the established fact that I am no mechanic, I am wondering if it plausible to loosen the oil pan bolts and carefully lower the pan by, oh, let's say a quarter of an inch and still run the motor. surely even if another quart of oil were added, the engine could be run with the pan down just a little bit? a few carefully placed wood shims, secured of course, would allow a "confirm or deny" run for oil pan or oil pan baffle interference? Heck, even a ring of duct tape around the perimeter to minimize a BP/Valdez experience for a few moments?

I second your request, Kevin. I agree its good that we have Fred on here now - better to get the story from the horse's mouth than the horse's.....
Fred - don't look back, keep your eyes on the road ahead. And for the record, there were people watching your back in the past - the suggestion was made several times in the past to simply call you directly....
