Re: STD 8 - Cyl Head Stud Installation

Can't thank you all enough for all the advice. Wish I had done all this when I first rebuilt the engine. It's all going back together this weekend and the carb should be ready in about two weeks - just in time to enjoy this 'wonderful' August Florida weather ...

Now who has a recommendation for a "Non belt driven, 6 volt, positive ground A/C system" that blows really cold ... lol ...

Thanks again,
Crin

You all are awesome! Thank you so much. Now what's this "gasket paste"? Should I try to find some or just put the head gasket down as is.

I just received new head studs from Max Merritt so I'm all set to go.

Thanks again,
Crin

Hi

Here's the tally so far

Lube top threads 1
Don't lube too threads 1

I need more votes and a recount when it's all over... I live in Florida... Lol

STD 8 - Cyl Head Stud Installation

Hi All,

I'm replacing the cylinder head studs and I was thinking I should use thread locker for the part that goes into the block and someone told me to grease the end that the acorn nuts screw onto.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thank you,
Crin

Hi all,

I'm going to hijack my thread back ... so I was thinking of sending the carb to The Old Carb Doctor. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

And for the record, I can't stop singing the Gilligan's Island theme .. three hour tour ... ahhhhh ... lol

Thanks,
Crin

Stromberg Carb Question
Home away from home
Home away from home

LOL
Hi all,

I have another question for you great folks. I had the Stromberg EE-23 rebuilt a number of years ago and I can't remember who did the work but it's been running rich for as long as its been on the car. I spoke with Jeff from The Carb Doctor and I was thinking of sending the carb to him for a complete rebuild.

As I often do, I got online and searched for Stomberg carbs and I was surprised to see that Summit Racing and Lucky's Speed Shop have Stromberg 97 and a BIG97 which look remarkably similar to my EE-23.

Lucky's speed shop has one that's half black and half chrome that "I just have to have" ... if it fits my Packard. I just love the way it looks - sometimes I get carried away like that but that's another story.

I couldn't find any specs on the EE-23 as far as CFM etc to compare to the 97 - and I really, really want the chrome BIG97 ... so please talk me out of it.

Thanks,
Crin

Hmmm... So if I have a modern day torque wrench, what would I need to torque the head nuts to?

Thanks

Hi,

One more question for you all. I saw this in one of the online manuals regarding cylinder head tightening (please see the attached picture). It mentions using a specific torque wrench and apply 150-160 as indicated on that wrench. My little engineering brain is telling me those numbers are in-lbs. I just want to verify that with you all.

I would imagine 150 ft-lbs would torque the stud clear off the block.

Thanks,
Crin
