v8, thanks,,

float, i followed packard, in a way its hit or miss, they just show you under pump, i was probaably at the wrong part of filter,

which i did before with no problems,,, the gears bind without the plate,

i hope i got float right , never had a problem with dip stick

yes cam is in,

ready to close up bottom.

thanks,,

Craig,

respect your opinion, ,

this pump has spring set like the bottom picture, so we have the gears as an issue ,HV gears which i would of put on if they dropped in.

as your other points, will have to wait and see what happens when i get it running, i am not going to drag race, so i think pressure will be fine, i could test this pump now, but i want to get it on the road,

the egge pump i had held great pressure,,,,,and that didn't even have the PI design,

craug, i think your melling design is great, but like others i like the Packard,,

having the dist, shaft oil pump shaft on a single plane takes out the wobble, which is what the 2 piece created.

i made the tongue of shaft fit snug in dist gear, no movemnet there......

thank you howard,,

question, at sq, pan drops, to outlet, behind sq, pan is sorta flat, i put a straight edge on it, straight enough,, but ,, i put pan on, hit the filter,,never had that before, so moved tube, goes on now, but have little more that 1/4 inch before filter hits pan ,,when i put my finger in drain hole, and lift filter, no gasket on yet, does filter float that close to bottom..??,

thanks,,,,,

talking to p. sw, there are 2 pans, 2 part no.. kanter was looking for 56 pans, one was flat, other had drop.

hope gerry pops in and fills in rest..

Hello, all,

it's all down to running it now,

randy, the packard parts book does not show the gasket, but , studebaker showed gasket, with 56j oil pump diagram,, plate 01-13

packard plate no, 29a does not show gasket and is not listed, this is what i have been refring to, and my gasket set did not come with one, i just want to know if you need one, that is my question

oil pump in no alignment problems, with one piece shaft.

mold for crankshaft key, to grind curve,

oil pump, jacks plate, pump body from p sw, i press in my own
bushing, left it full lenght, knurled bushing before pressing it in,

damper redone chromed, crack fixed,

gears, had to put align marks, when they are are that less binding, seems a jig needs to be made to lap in gears before use,

p sw checked his warehouse some pumps turned free no binding, others some binding,

so seems gears are not true,,,,,from factory

Pump went right in no alignment problems

mold for crankshaft key, which is 2-1/4 long, 3/16 x 1/4

wherever that saying about 2 piece shaft being for alignment is false..

in my opinion that is, the problem with pump..but will see when its running....

as for gasket that the 56j uses between pump and main, Studebaker engineers might of saw something,
