Anyone recommend a good book or manual about repair of wood bodies? I understand the basics but all knowledge is good.....

Yes, would be an interesting project, but not one I have the energy for. I simply have an 833 with a bad engine (I have the engine). Every once and a while I run across another one (ie a 30, 29, 32 etc) and if they are cheap enough I'll put it into my 833 until such time that the original is re-built. I don't want to alter anything, just trying to simply bolt one up and go.

Thanks for the lead - but, sorry, I'm not familiar with the meuseum. If I do a web search, I come up with The Citizens Motorcar Company - America's Packard Museum 420 Ludlow St. Dayton, Ohio. Is this the place??

Thanks

30's Engine interchange

I have an '31 standard eight (833) in need of an engine.

Does anyone out there know if there is a direct bolt in interchange for this engine - ie 29, 30, 32? I am trying to make this as easy as possible - ie. use my transmission etc.

All help is appreciated. Thanks

This is a newbie type question, and suspect I know the answer. How much work is it to put a '34 super 8 engine into a '31 standard eight chassis??

I have a bad '31 engine and I'm looking for a 'quick' solution.

Re: How to adjust hood on 53 Buick?

As you now know Dave was right on. I would suggest this is a more common issue than people may realize. Take a look at all of your hinges.

There will be an amount of slop due to age and use - and size of your hood.

Below is a qick and dirty way of fixing. When done with care, it will last many years, and be relatively invisible.

Take your hinges off and the spring off. Easier than you might think.

I have repaired this in many occassions (on early 60's Fords mind you) by simply welding the head of the rivets to ONE of the hinge pieces - the one with the elongated hole. The other piece is the hinge and the rivet is intended to rotate in that one. It's been many years but i think that the hinge rotates inside the piece that is bolted to the car??? (again in Fords)

Now when I say weld, I simply mean tack the head of the rivet to the hinge piece, so that it will no longer suffer the slop from the elongated hole.

When complete you can grind / dress the weld to 'hide' the repair.

Be carefull, when setting up the pieces before you weld, as if you set it in the wrong position, your hinge mount holes may not be large enough to adjust to compensate for this wrong position.

Clear as mud??

That comment is as repugnant as similar ones found here.

I won't dignify the personal sniping above.

I wrote that last diatribe with the thought of stating my bit and leaving it at that. Before I get flamed any more here, understand I have absolutely no connection to ANY club or oganization or business or whatever.

However, I will ask a couple of simple questions - and you know what, consider it an opportunity for quiet introspection rather than an invitation to an open pi**ing match through this forum.

People didn't like the rules (again), they picked up their bat and ball and went home. So be it, I don't care.

Why then keep returning for the simple purpose of stirring the pot?

Why then continue to flame that group for having rules for you, an invited guest?

This isn't a contest.

I stand with Tom. The pictures and references are in extremly poor taste. It is insulting not only to the AACA forum admin (whether or not you like them or agree with them) and to us the viewers of this sewage.

This is a really tired topic perpetuated by a few. The only ones that REALLY care are those few.

Quite frankly, 'cause I'm sick and tired of this, these few need to take a hard look in the mirror. I have been around for many years and in many packard forums (long before the migration to the AACA sponsored one and long before many of the readers of this post). It's a little more than coincidence that these forums - no matter who hosted them - always seem to come full circle and degrade to failure.

When is the light going to come on?
