well tomorrow we go to our appointment with the doctor ;0) the soda doc that is ;0)
i got the one rim that wasn't holding air busted down and i cleaned off the bead really good. Discount tire gave me a better tire and put it on for free ;0) yes it was a used tire, but i know the guys there really well, so they hooked me up. it holds air now, which makes it WAY easier to push the frame around. push it with my finger now. ;0) i got the trailer and my dad and neighbor and i pushed it right on the trailer and hunkered it down for the night. tomorrow it is going to rain, supposedly, so it may have to wait until the next sunny day to bring it home so the rain doesn't wash off the soda dust. that is all i will have to keep it from flash rusting, so i have to make sure to keep it dry until i am ready to wash it myself and paint primer. i power washed it really good today to make things go quicker and cheaper for me tomorrow at the blasters. while blasting i saw a green strip on one torsion bar and a blue on the other, i suppose it is to differentiate between left and right side bars??? i also came across the frame markings. what does ADS, i think that is what it says, mean?? i can see the date of 3/5 or 1/55....can't tell if it is a 1 or a 4 day. the number on the frame doesn't match anything else on the car and i think the 122 is for the 122" wheelbase?? later dudes, will post pics of the before and after on the frame, and again BigKev thanks for the soda idea! ;0)

Are u wanting specs for JUST the spindle itself or the entire steering knuckle?????? THe best thing to do is to deliver an entire knuckle to the vendor.
The spindle is just the SHAFT that is pressed and then welded into the knuckle. The knuckle is the entire assembly of the spindle and knuckel that the king pin passes thru. The spindle is pressed into the knuckle ON AN ANGLE relative to the king pin. Not sure if that angle spec. is available unless someone has a print. That's why it would be best ot supplt the entire knuckle to the vendor.

I just noticed that your picture of the day the earth stood still is labeled as a 23rd. The Packeard in the picture is actually a 22nd series Custom. It does have one stainless strip missing from the door. Just thought you might like to know.

I don't have specs but here are the parts # info for models. Looks like there is a lot of interchangeability.

Does anyone have any measurements or specs on spindles from 1953 to 1956 cars for comparison and what bearing numbers apply. I have located a vendor that has a disc brake upgrade available on a 1953 Packard and he believes it will interchange up to the 56. I know the seniors & juniors use different wheel bolt patterns and this isn't a problem.

Hmm, interesting point of view. I've been told by several people that my turbo's are too small, and will spool up too quickly, and by others that two of them are too much and won't spool up until too high an RPM. And still others that tell me the smaller TB0335 Chrysler turbos are perfect for my engine (They came off a 122cid engine, so two of those would be 244cid, still under my 327). The engine that I'm building is a 9 main version of the one you turbo'd, so basically the same thing, 327cid. Mine will have larger valves however, if it matters. I went small on the turbo's because I wanted faster spoolup since the RPM's are limited to 4000. Everything that I've read on turbocharging has told me that these are the ideal turbos for running a twin draw through setup for this size of engine. I guess I'll just see how well it works, but I've researched this extensively before I got this far. Please don't think I'm dissing you, I do appreciate the input and would love to know more about your project.

Should have mentioned, it also had curtains on the rear compartment windows. The article also had a number of detail pictures, interior and exterior. I agree it's homely, but I think to the military that wasn't a high priority.

Packard Monte Carlo

Here's an occasionally seen photo of the Packard Monte Carlo, designed by Richard Arbib (who also did the Pan American) and built by Henney on a 22nd Series Custom 8 2-dr sedan chassis. The story goes that it made the circuit of dealers for publicity purposes and just "disappeared". Perhaps it still exists in some private collection. It's interesting to speculate how it would have done in the marketplace, but it came along just prior to the 1951 models and by then the bathtub design was on the way out. One thing about it, rear visibility would have been the best of the 22nd/23rd series.
