Agreed that this Packard is in sad condition, but let's look at this objectively.
Approximately 2322 of these 1003s were built. Fifty are known to exist. Back in the 50s and 60s very fine closed cars...formal sedans, limousines, Town Cars were parted out to restore open cars. It was sad. I commend anyone who goes to the extreme effort to save another Packard from oblivion.

Has anyone out there installed a Sparton 3 or 4 note musical horn on their Third, Fourth, or Fifth Series car?
I am open to suggestions on the mounting. The motor is heavy and bulky.

I am talking about corporate letters or publications such as the owner's manual

I have original Third and Fifth Series literature and one piece, copyrighted in 1933. No calendar year is listed for the models.
When did PACKARD...not historians or authors...FIRST label models with calendar year?

Where are all the author's research papers?

Over the years there have been numerous notable authors of Packard books....Beverly Rae Kimes, Robert Neal, Robert Turnquist just to name a few.
Certainly they must have had copious notes to generate such notable works. What has happened to all those drafts, references, etc? Are they still in family file cabinets gathering dust, or were they donated/willed to some museum and now available to others for research? Here's what prompts my question. Turnquist's book states on page 34 that Packard introduced the convertible coupe model for the 526 on January 1, 1928. Kimes states on page 275 in her History that the convertible coupe model was introduced in January 1928 for the 443, but the convertible coupe was available on the 526 wheelbase since the previous July. Here we have the two most notable authors, whose word is taken as FACT... differing on a topic. Where is the underlying documentation? I hope some reader can shed some light on the topic.

Our LATE Third Series sedan has the wrong clamps, but have no idea what they belong to.
Does any reader recognize them?

Thanks Fred. I suspected that, but never found it in print or any pic with the curtains installed...only pics with the top down for the runabout.
Keeping in mind that one should take everything in print with a grain of salt.... ...why does the NADAGuides web site list a 1927 526 average retail prices... Convertible Coupe....$38,000 Runabout............$105,000 That seems like a wide discrepancy! Which one is off kilter?
