Re: T/L motor problem 56 pat

Randy, Tried to get back to you yesterday but was having a problem with computer kicking me out after a few minutes. I think it was the cox cable connection. Seems fine today.
(1) yes, each solenoid clicks when I touch a ground jumper to the center term.

(2) I have 12 volts at both sides of the toggle switch (with the switch to the on position, toward the center of the car) until the brake is depressed.

(3) I can hear the control box clicking when I actuate the lever for the limit switches, It seems the box clicks (about 7 times, about 7 seconds) when the lever is moved in one direction but, does not click at all in the other direction.

Dr.Stuart Schaller, PhD
I tend to like ugly cars! The main reason for having interest in the Nash Ambassadors is that I am an Italian car guy and the 1952 through 1956 Ambassadors were styled by Pininfarina, an Italian designer.

I have two 1950s Alfa Romeos currently, and have had about 150 Italian sports cars over my life, including 2 different Ferraris, back in the early 1970s!

The one car I owned (in the mid-1980s) that I wish that I never sold was a Moretti 750 bialbero Zagato coupe(only 2 built with Zagato coachwork!) It had an engine of only 750cc, but it put out 70 horsepower, and was twin overhead camshaft, with two 2bbl sidedraft carbs. It only weighed 1200 pounds, and was not much bigger than a child's pedal car!

Silly Italian sports racing cars (the generic term for all the marques that built cars like this is "etceterinis") like this are now worth $150,000+, and some worth as much as $500,000 !!!!

Hence my posting name dretceterini (Dr.Etceterini)

In the photo, the car next to the Moretti 750 Zagato is a Fiat 1400 sedan that looks kind of like a 3/4 size early 1950s Plymouth :) ...

Re: CAUTION ON THE USE OF SILICONE BKAKE FLUID IN ESAMATIC BRAKE SYSTEMS

G'day Gentlemen, With regard to a possible rework of the Compensator Port Assembly, I would suggest that recommending or posting a modification to an OEM brake system, not having a history of failures, may be a big NO NO, in terms of legal liability. It is akin to giving someone legal advice when you are not legally "qualified".
I have 4 spare Treadle - vac cores and I inspected the spring on each today and each was fine. I consider that Gauss has a great idea in that any spare units should have the compensator valve assembly non-assembled to prevent imprinting on the sealing face. I shall do that on a unit which I have recently overhauled.
I am not aware if Bendix still exists today, but if it does and if it continues to market repair kits, then it is the entity holding the Public Liability Insurance for the product. I am NOT legally qualified BUT I urge caution as there may be some DEEP water out there. Best regards Peter Toet

Greetings, dretceterini,

Cars, wives and mistresses are all individual choices and none can say him nay . . . but a '52-56 Nash? I've had the bad fortune to own a '53 and a '56 (the latter had the Packard V8 and Twin-Ultramatic) They were both roomy, comfortable and quiet. However, so is my living room sofa and it drives about as well as did those Gnashes. They are also a style which never grew on me. I've come to love the Packard Hawk, but the Nash of that era still doesn't find a home in my heart or my garage. I will, however, keep you in mind should one be offered in my area. Just a last question, why not a '57-58? They were even less attractive to my eye!

thnx, jv.

I don't know how long ago he drove it on the road, but it wasn't too long aago. The body is pretty good and the chrome is good for a driver. It has PS, PB, Pseats, AT, T/L. It has the 352 with a Rochester 4GC carb. I can't remember what he wanted but I will find out.

yeah, there are a couple of foreign plates there. Sharp eyes, Keith!
After scrutinizing the vin plate a little closer I see the paint code is FD and the trim is 42. The D is upside down and the 2 is almost off the plate. This must have been done on a Monday morning by a previous Ford employee

Apparently we are all in agreement that there are issues with the compensator port even if it is only parts availability. Especialy the spring.
How can we modify the compensator port to maybe eliminate the need for a spring???? Maybe sleeve the cylinder for a piston and cup seal. Replace the comp port wit h a manual valve???
