But, with the engine revved up to 900 rpm, I get 3 degrees of advance (perfect) and 7 degrees of advance at 2200 RPM (3 degrees too low). So I either have a weight or a spring problem, which I don't have the tools or ability to correct.
Merry Christmas!

The advance issue may be just the various pivot points and moving parts gummed up. Getting to the advance weights should only take rudimentary tools. If you are replacing the bushings, you will have to disassemble the advance mechanism. Just take pictures or make sketches of how everything fits back. Clean everything up, and lightly lube the pivots and pins. I normally use a light grease like Lubriplate or engine assembly lube or 00 grease. If the pins are worn or the holes in the weights are oval shaped or the slots in the cam plate are worn, then you will have some part replacement to do.

Kevin, the trunk looks great! And good job on the window trim and dash. It's amazing how some elbow grease can really bring back parts of an old car without resorting to a full blown "restoration".

There is another member on this forum, Jason75, who has worked wonders with his Packard, redoing the paint and other areas of the car. He hasn't posted in quite a while, but hopefully is still working on the car.

Anyway, I look forward to your posts, and your progress. Keep it up!

The '54 Clipper Super looks like a really solid car. Amazingly clean under the hood. It's fairly close to me, too bad it's not a 3sp/OD.

***SOLD*** "The Fall of the Packard Motor Car Company" by James A. Ward; a comprehensive and complete story of the puzzling decline and fall--in the midst of a huge automotive boom--of one of America's most prestigious automobile manufacturers. Original printing was 1995, and this book is a 1999 printing, 308 pages. Excellent condition, no tears, no writing that I could find. Has odd "Not For Sale" stamped in three places, I got this with a bunch of Studebaker parts so not sure why the book has these stamps. See pics for condition. $20 includes USPS Media Mail shipping in the USA; PayPal is preferred payment method. Please email me at r1lark at aol dot com (letter "r", number "one", lark) or send a Private Message thru this forum. Thanks for looking!

What a neat old car! I think I would be satisfied driving it as a survivor (if only it ran ).

Owen's comments don't bode well for this car, but I understand the reasoning. But what would be worse - to use this chassis to recreate an open Packard, or end up with a GM LS V8 and automatic transmission?

Duane, very nice Clipper. Love the colors. If you put that together from a parts car, and drove it 70K miles, you definitely did a great job rebuilding it.
