Thanks for all the advice. I checked the torque and the head bolts where lose. Some where only 40 to 50 so they are now all 63 and checked when the engine was warm after cooling down and now no more bubbling in the radiator 😄

I will try to re torque the head first around 62 to 64 on the torque from what I have read. correct?

If I need to replace the HG should I replace the bolts, nut and washers or reuse them. They appear ok.

thanks

James

115 radiator bubbling and foaming

Hello Everyone,

Is it normal for a 1937 115 with a 1938 110 engine in it to have the radiator bubble and foam when looking into it with the radiator cap off? Everything else is great with the car but it does seem to bubble and foam especially when the gas is pressed down in neutral instead of idle. It almost will bubble over the open radiator cap with the engine revved in neutral. I know that the bigger water pump on the 38 pumps 36 gallons per minute. I read where the level in the radiator should be about 1.5 to 2 inches above the level of the tubes perhaps mine is a little to full? About half my index finger will be submerged if I stick it in the radiator. Was it normal for these cars to have some bubbling, foaming and turning of the radiator when the car is warm? should I be worried about a pressurized exhaust gas leak into the radiator fluid from the head gasket. No white exhaust smoke, the milky oil either.

I don't want to be an alarmist but I was just looking to better understand my car that I have had for 2 years.

Thanks

James

Standard speaker location for 1937 115c

Hello all,

I was going to add a standard radio that is correct for a 1937 115c, the control head is easy to add in but the speaker that contains the tubes and speaker is a little bigger, I am assuming that is would go right under the glove box is that correct? I have seen that as the location for the deluxe speaker location, but have not been able to locate a picture of the standard speaker/tube unit.

Thanks

James

37 115 underbody engine side panels

Hello everyone,

Would anyone know where to get the underbody body panels for a 115 that would go on the lower undersides of the engine on either side of the oil pan?

I thought these might help keep the road heat off the engine and fuel pump.

Thanks James

Re: Intake manifold vacuum line removal 110 38 engine

The wipes are vacuum but are not hooked up my guess is that without the dual vacuum fuel pump the line directly from the intake manifold will not make the work. I will just cap the manifold off then. Thanks

Intake manifold vacuum line removal 110 38 engine

Hello all,

I am still working on a 37 115 with a 38 model year six engine. I had a question about the vacuum line off the intake manifold. This engine has a newer single action fuel pump for a 1940 six. I traced the intake vacuum line back that should have been connected to the vacuum side of the fuel pump, but since it is not a dual action the line runs straight back across the firewall into the passenger area but is not hooked to anything.

I am assuming this is not good to leave like this

Can I simply dead end the line at the intake manifold? I would then remove the lines. I was wondering if my grandfather was trying to use the wipers and set it up like this. He is no longer living so I can't ask him. The wipers don't work, and I don't need wipers as I will drive in only fair weather.

Thanks. James

Lacking oil filter on 38 six engine

Just can't stay away

JRPackard37
Hello again,

My engine is a 38 six in my 37 115. My grandfather had taken the oil filter off completely and capped the lines in and out of the engine where it was at some point in the past. My question do I need the filter put back on? I am just finishing up a refreshing up of a 20 year old restoration.

I would be driving less that 500 miles a year.

Thanks

James

38 six engine rear main seal

Hello,

My 37 115c convertible has a 38 six engine in it. A couple of questions with the engine. The number on it is A25963D or A25963B. What does the D or B stand for at the end of the number. This was located on the upper back cyclinder on the driver's side.

Also it seems like some engine oil is getting past the slinger at the rear of the engine, is this common. I see via older posting that the six didn't have a rear seal at this point. It looks like a couple of drips are on the pavement when I parked it coming from the bottom hole in the flywheel clutch cover. Is this an issue?

Thanks

James
