The wage for a pipefitter at GM in 1939 was $44.00 assuming a 40 hour week. So, it would appear that this would be a weekly paycheck and in line with other auto manufacturers of the time.

Yup. Social Security 1% of pay in 1939.

The only factory trunk floor covering that I'm absolutely certain about is for the 1949 23rd Series Custom. It's a thin die-cut rubber mat with hogshair-like fibers affixed to the surface. The fibers were a multi-shaded brown.

A carburetor from a '47 356 should be a 531S. No idea if it would work well on a 327.

The 'Flying Wing' was standard on the Eight and Deluxe eight so wasn't really an optional accessory. I'm guessing that's why it wasn't listed. The Egyptian was available starting with the 1948 22nd series.

JD, do you still have the part number for that by any chance? I'm hunting for a 22nd Series Custom and it would be useful to know once I get mine.

I checked and unfortunately I didn't keep a record of the part number. NAPA still sells snap in rubber stem valves and I don't think you will have a problem finding what you need. Since the 22nd/23rd Series don't have the style of hubcaps that can interfere with the stem, I have had no problems with the rubber stem.

I had the same problem with my '50 Custom when I had Diamond Back tubeless radials installed. I bought 4 stems at NAPA that extend two inches from the rim including the cap. I paid $3.11 in 2009 for a set of four.

No. The car was restored with the 'Multi-Tone' option. There were three color schemes that included matching plastic, paint and upholstery in Green, Blue or Brown. Here's the sales brochure rendition (brown option).

I agree. It would also solve the problem of which method to use to replace the inevitable disintegration of the rubber coating. Unfortunately, my model (1450) didn't offer the delete option.

I think the 110 above could benefit by a nautical interior to go with the portholes.

Jim, for the benefit of those who may read this in the future, I'd like to clarify your statement on Series.

The 22nd series cars were manufactured from 1947-1949 and were labeled as either 1948 or 1949 models. Some unsold 1948 models were re-labeled as 1949 22nd series models. The 23rd Series cars were manufactured from 1949-1950 and were labeled as either 1949 or 1950 models. Some unsold 1949 models were re-labeled as 1950 23rd series models.

The Station Sedan is an exception and was only manufactured as a 22nd series car but the unsold cars were renumbered as 1949 22nd Series, 1949 23rd series, and 1950 23rd Series. It was possible for a 1948 Station Sedan to end up having had 4 data plates ultimately showing '1950 23rd series'.

The 24th Series were all labeled as 1951 models.
