Re: Ink Stamp on Patent Plates

I agree with West on the "to neat" problem, but I've seen pictures of metal stamping that was a long way from authentic looking plus the font was wrong. I'm pretty sure the maker used silk-screen to make mine, so cleaning and polishing the old plate to "re-print" the black may be the best of both worlds.
- Anyway I kept my original as it was.

I would like to know about the screws as Owen mentioned. Which is correct - flat or phillips?

ok - well this is what I ended up with.
I searched through MS office fonts and decided on "Centry Gothic" (bold), when by the local Office Max - and after a few sizing trials and voila!
- I hope it's close to authentic!

Hi all - I've got another question on "factory correct" I can't find in the blog history.

- What's the correct color of the parcel shelf in 2362 cloth interior? Is it the same color as the headliner, lower darker solid color material or seat material - or something else?

- What's typically been done in other restorations? - painted board material, or board covered with fabric?

Thanks as always...

Ink Stamp on Patent Plates
#34
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Sam Sargent
Getting closer to completing my '50 Deluxe restoration and I'm getting more and more picky about the original details:

I had a new patent plate made with engraved serial # so the font would be as close as possible to the original. I plan to have an ink stamp made by a local maker but I can't find again the picture of the ink stamped Paint and Trim Codes. I ran into it once - I believe on this site but now a search can't locate it. Thought it was in Robert Neal's book - "Packard 1948 to 1950" but after thumbing back through it this morning I found it was the stamp and pad kit - no font example.

Does anyone have or recall the link to show the ink stamp fonts? - "X" and "69" in particular

Thanks!
- Sam

Didn't hear any thoughts on my "Flocking" question and haven't had any research luck so;

Was flocking used in 23rd series?

I found some fibers that looked like Flocking when I removed the hinges so I'm thing it could be. If so, which areas of the trunk had it?

Thanks!

Logos!
(but first, many thanks to those of you that contributed detail information - very appreciated!)

I've received 2 logos. Does anyone happen to know if both were used or which is correct for 23rd series mats?
"Baldwin" logo is from a 2382 per Eight Sedan
"U.S." logo is from a 42 Clipper 160

Thanks!

UPDATE:
After making 3 paper templates, sizing, fitting and marking the rubber base went well. After one more overall check tomorrow I'll ship it back to the "finisher". He'll apply the groves, ridges, textures, etc. and hopefully return the finished mat by November.

Brian,
I will be getting the base rubber sheet any day now from the manufacture to cut and insure a good fit, mark the designs then send it back for him to finish. Hope to have it completed before November. If you're interested in one give me a call - did you get my pm with my #?
