Thanks for the story Ryan. Reminds me of when me and my buddies "rescued' a 1940 Chevy while in high school (back in the 70's). We had a tow bar and my '68 Rambler. Rambler lost it's brakes on the 25 mile drive home. That's exciting.

What are your plans for your Packard? Driver, restore? One thing's for sure. You won't see another one like on cruise nights.

Thanks for sharing.

Pat,

So sorry for your loss. As you said these old cars go up very quick. I disconnect my battery cables during extended storage. However, during the driving season (fast approaching) I just park it in the garage and leave. The garage is attached to the house no less ! I will definitely invest in a quick disconnect and use this everytime. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Thanks for the wake up call.

My '53 Caribbean is set uo as HH56 stated as well. I pull the front seat all the way back and lift up the carpet to uncover the vent. I fill fill the trans there.

John Bryan started the shop but was stepping away even when I did business with them. Am not sure he is still with us. When they rebuilt my 47 engine, I believe almost all the work was being handled by Fred Perkins & associates.. Fred used to be a member of PI and if still is, may have some contact info available in their directory.

Unfortunately I did not find Fred Perkins or John Bryan in the 2008 PI directory. Maybe a call to Carol Mauck at PI can track this down.

The shop almost had to be Bryan Packard Repair & was unaware & sorry they closed. A decent shop. The last PI meet I attended they exhibited a late 30's Packard with a nicely done 56 V8 & I think Ultra conversion installed. Talk about shoehorn, tight quarters & limited engine room.

Very interesting. I have been trying to locate the shop that did a rebuild on my '53 Caribbean when it was with the previous owner. Cal over at Custom Auto thought it was someone named John over in Oceanside. Could the name of the shop owner been John Bryan? If so, does anyone have his contact info?

At the very least it's one more Packard being kept on the road and put to good use. Better than on the scrap heap !

Absolutely ! For anyone who is into the '37 juniors (or just Packards in general) check out this project blog:

Restoration of a '37 120CD. Lots of great pictures and videos.

I just added my 1937 120 Touring Sedan to the owner's registry. Long term restoration project. Anyone out there clearing their basement of junior parts?

Can someone tell me the cross street of the Conner Ave plant? From the photo in this thread it looks like it's the current Chrysler facility between Sherman Ave and Mound Road. I grew up in Detroit but was born in 1959 so I have no recollection of the Briggs or Packard plants on Conner.
