Re: 2nd Annual Packard V-8 Club Meeting

A regional meet sounds like a great idea to me too. Now, all we need is some volunteers to help out/give ideas on locations, and we'll be set. I'm willing to take on the Central Division of PV8C. It might not be a bad idea to plan a "Nationals Meet" every year, at different locations every year, to make it so everyone can say they've been to a Nationals. Always remember, Packard V8 Club meets are about the cars and the engineering that goes into them, along with a few beers and some BS stories about Packards, women, fishing, etc. We strive to give the Meet a "welcome buddy, have a beer" feel to it, instead of judging your car, being bored just sitting by your car all day, charging $5.00 for a hotdog, etc. Think "car buddy backyard BBQ", and you've hit the nail on the head. I also think that this may expand into a "Postwar Packard Club" sometime down the road, now that it's really taking off. It's fine by me if that's what happens. I like those old straight eights too, ya know! ;)

One thing I can say about my experience with the first "National PV8C Meet" was that it was a heck of a lot of fun, Craig is an excellent host, and both Craig and Kevin G. know how to BBQ!

For some of you new members who haven't seen my supercharger setup on the Pat, here ya go:(notice that it all fits under the hood, and retains a total stock appearance from the outside.)

Welcome to the Forum Dan! Now here's a little info to get you started....
Before you drop the pan to work on the oil pump, look at this:http://www.1956packardpanther.com/PV8C_OHVOPA.html

There's a lot of things that all of us in The Packard V8 Club have done in the past year alone, and more to come.
One word on the Bendix Treadle-Vac, GET RID OF IT!!! It's an accident waiting to happen, no matter how many times it's rebuilt. Just ask Craig H. on here about it, he'll relate his story about three failures of the same unit.

As for your "auto park" not working, I assume you have the Pushbutton Ultramatic? If so, check your wiring under the dash where the connector from the pushbuttons is located, and push each wire back in, I've noticed mine has on occasion vibrated out and lost connection. I solved this by expanding the tab inside the female connector. If that's not it, send me an e-mail, and I can help you get it working again. (I've got LOTS of experience with the pushbutton, and have been successful, thanks to Mr. Pushbutton on here)

You all don't have to contact me, I'm not the boss of PV8C. It's just that the last time I knew, the location was still up for grabs, and some members were wanting a more central location for this year's meet. I'm just looking out for the best interest of the club here. If anyone has a place and a project to donate this year, then speak up, or Craig's gonna have to donate his couch again this year!

Well, I found a pic of the O/D unit I'm planning on using for the AOD-T/U project, so here ya all go! This is the early Packard O/D unit, from 1951-1954, (I'm assuming, this pic is off E-bay) I just wanted everyone to get an idea of the length of the o/d unit, as compared to the V8 version, which is at least 6" longer.

Yeah, I'm using the double pulley on the Paxton, and yes, I pulled the hose off the air hat, and it does blow what to me seems like a lot. And yes, I blew on the boost gauge, it does work, but I can't attest to the accuracy of it. It reads vacuum rather well, though!

I've tried the boost gauge directly off the supercharger, where the small port that I assume runs to the fuel pump (that's where it does on mine, anyway), then finally on the rear of the carb, where there's a large port for additional vacuum supply. It's on the opposite end where the vacuum line for the brake booster is. Keep in mind I'm using a 600 CFM Edelbrock, which isn't exactly the same as the AFB you have on your Avanti. The gauge seems to work, as it move from 20 inches of vacuum at idle to 0 under load and almost full throttle.

Nope, zero boost even up 4000 rpm. That's why I'm thinking that I need a smaller pulley.
