Thanks folks for the quick responses!
The info Owen_Dyneto provided explains all the engine number suffixes except the six cylinder "CE" -- engine number G5145CE (car serial number 2282-9-2708). Any idea about this one? Did the six cylinder engine have a cam and oil pan change also? Also, any idea on the letters mean at the end of these serial numbers: 2462-32235A 5477-2697C Thanks!!

In the process of putting all my family's Packard new car sales into a spreadsheet, I've come across some Serial and Engine Numbers that have letters at the end. I am wondering what their meanings are. Even after searching on www.packardinfo.com and other sites on the internet, I was not able to find an answer.
If anyone can point me to a source that will provide this information, I would be very appreciative. Following are the Serial and Engine Numbers in question: Serial Numbers-- 2462-32235A 5477-2697C Engine Numbers-- G292695CE G293016CE G294320CE G292936CE G5145CE G5220C H411376F L303430H M310287H Thanks in advance! Thanks Jason! I agree with you on the Meguiars #7, it is really great stuff for old single stage paint. I used it on my '54 Studebaker since the paint job is an old early '70s repaint.
I'm amazed at the shine you brought back on the car. Would never have thought that paint would come back that well.

Wow, what a difference on the paint! Can you summarize the steps and products that you used to accomplish this transformation?

Santa Fe, that's a beautiful area of the country. My younger son lives in Scottsdale AZ and we go out each spring and fall, visit him, then travel around the southwest for a week.

Hi, wanted to introduce myself, just signed up at www.packardinfo.com......
My name is Paul, and live in North Carolina. Long time Packard fan, since my family had a Packard dealership in Hempstead Long Island NY from '48 - '56, and a Studebaker-Packard dealership in Merrick Long Island NY from '56 - '65. When Studebaker consolidated production in Canada in '64, the dealership began transitioning to a Datsun/Nissan dealership. I've been using the www.packardinfo.com resources quite a bit over the last couple of months while transferring the family dealership sales records into a digital format. While I'm very familiar with Studebaker model info, and Packard model info in '54 - '56, I needed help on models and serial numbers for the earlier Packards. All the needed info and more was found here at www.packardinfo.com I hope to make use of the knowledge on this forum in answering some questions that came up when transferring the Packard sales records. While I have a number of Studebakers (thus my user name "r1lark" which of course is a Studebaker reference), unfortunately no Packards are in the garage. My goal is to eventually obtain a nice '54 or '55 or '56 Packard as these are my favorite models. Thanks to bigKev for making this site available!
