Hi Dave. I used the same size wire as original, but I used a bigger one from the starter to amp gauge, I used double witres from the headlight switch to the dipper to the front junction block. Email me if want lots of details. Gary

Hello Dave. Do you know what the name or number for that blue color is? (That is what my Packard is supposed to look like.)

I believe 925 lbs for a complete engine.

Hello Bill. If you (a) want to save a heap of money (b) aren't going to a concourse, and (c) want something that actually suits your car, then do it yourself. I recently did a complete rewiring on my 1949. I am not an electrician, never done it before, but is is not difficult. 49 RHD harnesses aren't available anyway, that I know of.
If you want an off the shelf cloth covered harness, you will still have to mod it for indicators, OD, etc. It won't be plug and play. However if you can crimp 2 wires together, you can do it. There are only 25 wires in the whole car. (Wouldn't try it with a 2020 car)
Please email if you have any questions.

Gentlemen, I feel sure I can offer some advice that might come in useful one day.
If, regarding your favorite car that you have owned for decades, poured many hours of work into, love driving; if your better half ever says "Either that car goes, or I go." then shake her hand, offer to help her pack her suitcase, and make sure she has enough money for the taxi fare. It is the least you can do. I know I am being sentimental, but I hope this helps.

Greg, unless you are living in the Andes, a 3.54 should be fine. These engines have plenty of torque, the factory tended to undergrear the cars anyway, a legacy from the days of 20 inch wheels.

Hi Everyone. Assuming there is nothing wrong with your fuel pump, could I suggest an electric pump in series? On my engine I also found the heat from the block and manifold simply evaporated the fuel from the pump and line. I got an electric pump from onlineautoparts, it is 6V and works with pos earth, and doesn't have to be on all the time. I use this for starting so I don't have to crank the battery to death getting fuel up from the opposite corner of the car.
Hope this helps.

The spark plugs in my 1949 288 look like typical plugs where visible, but the thread is 10mm about 4 threads long. No numbers, just a red band. Does anyone have a brand and part number? Thanks. Gary

Hi Jack. I rebuilt my 288 about 10 years ago, and I cannot remember if I installed this coolant distributor tube.
There was nothing left of the original one. My engine can sit and idle all day and doesn't overheat. If I find I need one I will make one from brass or copper tube. It just has to fit the back of the water pump, and have a hole in the vicinity of each exhaust port. It can't be hard.
