the first pic shows the shift rod 1/2 inch away from the t bar in reverse
the second pic shows 1 inch in park
the third pic is a forward view
the forth shows a 2 and 3/8 inches from the plumb line to the old mstr cyl
the fifth is an overall view of the lower linkage this is not connected to the tranny so there may be some play i suspect not much from the left end though
let me know if i can send any more shots or measurements and good luck
all shots except first have shift lever in park also rod in park is above t bar slightly so reverse is a more critical dimension
perhaps you could get creative with the shape of the shift linkage if
needed
took a look at my packard which is on the road and noticed difference on orientation of shifter rod, looks like you could add another inch to my previous measurements .

Yesterday it was warm enough to play out in the driveway so i decided to install a delco distributor and the pertronix ignition system . it was a breeze and the delco gears matched perfectly I had a nos distributor from Max Merritt and would say the engine ran a little smoother and cold starts are improved, I tested that today.(of course the engine running smoother could be as a result of retiming). I will keep the old points around for a while actually i will keep the old distributor around with the points not disturbed so a swap back would be fast either way. I think the pertronix was around $75 and the new distributor was close to $200

one thing about the chevy engine swap is if you are in elksnot and have engine trouble good luck finding that packard part in the auto parts store but the chevy part will be there. It could save a week waiting for mail order parts to arrive, i always am ready to rent a truck and dolly if i am out there but it would be nice to walk in and say knibbling pin and some turn signal fluid for a sm block chev and walk back out the same time parts in hand, true the resale will take a hit but he should know that going in

thank you all for the information especially HH56 i received the Jack Nordstom kit and it looks like he did all the heavy lifting now to figure out which ac kit to buy im leaning toward classic air. that is the one in my plymouth and it seems to be good quality.

jack i was wondering why the pertronix people insisted i swap my coil out when i bought their system a year ago so i called and asked them , they said it didn't matter whether you switch it out or not as long as you have at least 1 and a half ohms. so i was assuming since my pertronix guy insisted i swap it it would be nessesary but apparently it was to enhance a sale sorry for the bad info but the chrome distributor gives an extra 5 or 6 horsepower im sure .

carl
the distributor swap will work but you will need to swap the ignition coil too, the pertronix people will help you with that and my reason was to bring the electrical system up from 50 year old technology to 20 year old technology and I never enjoyed setting the gap on points, the MSD 5 sounds like a good way to go too
