I was comparing his SMS picture to his MES picture in the registry. He could have removed them for the same reason you stated but I have no knowledge if fender mounted dual mirror where original or not. Mine happens to be on the driver's door.

Dave Thanks.

I was fortunate in the fact that my car is still fairly original. I had the fenders and wheels repainted in the same fashion that I had found them prior to disassembly. My front fenders definitely had the Danube Blue below the parking light and my steel Motor Wheels appeared to have the remnants of the original Danube Blue paint.

I had no idea your car was once repainted in the SMS color scheme. It looks quite good although I prefer the MES and I know you prefer originality. I am guessing the fender mounted dual rear view mirror were not original too :)

It was certainly a buy back in 1997! Buying it from the original owner no less. These cars have a certain way of growing on you. I too have put much more time and money into my Carib than I had ever planned. And since I can't take the money or the car with me, I will enjoy them both while on this mortal coil.

Regards,
Robert.

Randy,

Thanks for the heads-up on the whiskers. I will remove them before I re-install the grill.

Robert.

Randy,
Your knowledge and attention to detail is impeccable. I look forward to parking my Carib next to yours one day and comparing notes. I can assure you mine will pale in camparison but I would certainly enjoy the fellowship and conversation.

I am biased as well on the 56 Caribbean. I spent a couple of years searching for mine and it was worth the wait. I never get tired of working on it, learning more about or just going into the garage to stare at it.

Keep up the good work. Here a few pics of mine. I am getting closer!

Regards,
Robert.

West,

You are absolutely right. It was the owners son. Below is a picture of the car's description card from the show.

In addition, although not a Packard, this Marmon 16 was incredible!

Here's a 1928 4-43 Phaeton that was restored over 4 and half years. It was re-acquired by the original owner 48 years after he sold it and meticulously restored.

Hilton Head Car Show

I went to the Hilton Head Car show this past weekend. About a 5 hour drive East from Atlanta. The show is set up for an Auto Auction and Car Club event on Saturday and a Concours show on Sunday. The weather was fantastic and a lot of great cars were shown both days.

Nicola Bulgari was the host of this years event having a personal collection of over 150 cars in the US and in Rome Italy. He brought 6 cars to the event and several of them were unrestored originals.

My favorite was a 1935 Twelve Coupe. A magnifiscent car aging gracefully.

Similar copy from the Kimes book on Packard pages 554-555

"While the company was deciding on a course of action for the Pan American, Henney's Arbib had busily engaged in yet another project, the Monte Carlo, a conversion from two 1952 Mayfair hardtops which Packard had sent to Henney in early September, complete with 1953 style bumpers, headlight rims, fender and body moldings, deck lid ornaments and grills. The Monte Carlos had wire wheels, exterior spares and hood scoops like the Pan American, but the body speedline was eliminated and the tops were changed to a semi-town car configuration with removable solid panels or fabric over the driver."

No photos provided with the text on these pages.

Interesting there is no mention of the Monte Carlo based on the 23rd series which is the original photo posted by Owen_Dyneto in this email thread.
