Riki, I'll look forward to hearing how you make out. I hope that you have better luck than have I.

Howard, thanks for the info. BTW, I've looked on the Speedbleeder site and did not notice any adapters for Packards with BTV systems. Which one did you get for yours?

I'm baaack! After a long sabbatical, and quite a busy few months with my Sea Scout Ship, I'm back at work on the Patrician. In order to do so, I had to do some quick cleaning out of the garage and inventory my tools. It has been a while.
Needless to say, I'm in the process of vacuum bleeding the Patrician's brake system. The re-built master cylinder has been installed and hopefully, I've got enough brake fluid to finish the job. I just stopped off at Advance Auto earlier today to pick up another bottle of brake fluid. I do have a question for those of you who have probably done this before. With a totally new system, new lines, new wheel cylinders, new hoses, re-build master cylinder, how long does it take to see some fluid come out of the wheel cylinder? I've been following the directions on the vacuum bleeder that I purchased from Sears and I can see the vacuum pressure dropping when I stop pumping the vacuum portion of the tool, but after some 15 minutes, I've yet to see any fluid come out of the wheel cylinder into the collection tube. Am I doing something wrong or simply have no patience? (Yes, I did loosen the bleeder valve on this particular wheel cylinder before attaching the vacuum hose). I know that it will take some time to pull the brake fluid from the master through the lines and fill the wheel cylinder, but after 15 minutes of pumping the vacuum tool, I thought I should have seen something. BTW, the instructions that came with the tool said to start with the wheel closest to the master cylinder and then work your way towards the wheel farthest away. I've seen others who said start with the wheel farthest away and work your way backwards. Any advice, criticisms, or, possibly, words of encouragement would be appreciated.

I just wanted to alert forum members of a nice 1955 Packard Four Hundred 2-door coupe for sale on eBay. The car is located in Oregon and appears to have a decent history. From the photos posted, it appears in very nice shape and has quite a few options. Sorry, no air conditioning!
There are more photos on the listing. This post is for informational purposes only, I imply no endorsement of whether this would be a good purchase or not. 1955 Packard Four Hundred 2-Door Hardtop

Some time ago I bought a stainless exhaust system for my '55 Patrician and the workmanship was miles above what you have pictured. Mine looked very professionally done. Where did you find this supplier?

I've had the Rochester 4GC carb on my '55 400 professionally re-built about a year ago and that engine just hums. I'm happy that you've decided to remain with an OEM carb for your Packard.

Let me add my congratulations to those of other forum members on your new (to you) Packard. Driving your gem is truly one of the joys of owning a Packard. I'm still a relative newbie in Packard-land and I must add my comments to those others who have mentioned how friendly and helpful other members of this forum are. I look forward to reading future posts of how you are making out with your Packard.

Disassembling Tail Light Bodies for Re-Chroming
|
||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Home away from home
|
Hi Gang. I'm in the process of sending out my Patrician's tail lamp bodies to get re-chromed and I've run into a bit of a snag in attampting to remove the reverse light fixture from the lamp body. I'm pretty confident that these fixtures can and should be removed for re-chroming, but they appear to be pretty snugly fit into the body. The part that has me stumped is the fact that there appears to be flanges on both sides of the body opening to keep the reverse light fixture firmly in place.
Before I do something really stupid and ruin either the reverse lamp fixture and/or the tail light body, I thought I would seek some sage advice from some of you V-8 owners who might have already accomplished this little task. I'm sure that this fixture is removable.
