Here comes the colored wiring diagram for the 21st Series.

Clemens

Edit: File is edited now, left and right direction indicators are designated respectively.

Ok, well for starters I'll have
Who, What, When and Where,
and then Whither, Whether, Whence and Wherefore to follow
and one big sideorder of Why.

Depending on whether your car has the Electro clutch I believe the upper or horn section has either 4 or possibly 6 or 8 wires in total. I can't tell for sure how many you have but looks like 4 with maybe a modern wire taped on??

Without EC, it has 4 wires and from the start point it goes about 18-20 inches toward the horn where 2 horn wires exit and other two continue on another approx 16 inches to the carb starter switch. Horn will have the spade type connectors as does the starter switch.

That is what I was looking for!

The modern tape was my work. I had to replace the wire connecting the horn button with the lower horn terminal.

The unidentified cables were tugged to the left hand side and attached with some cable ties but they are long enough to connect to the carb starter switch.

I will investigate this tomorrow!

Clemens

Thank you again very much Howard, this diagram prints out way better than the one I downloaded some time ago.
I am coloring all the wires for easier understanding. When I am done, I will post it here.

Your pictures are a great help and there is some progress here.

While tinkering with the non working horns I found some unused cables with no apparent terminals near them to connect with.
The upper two are connected to horn terminals S and B (original brown cable bypassed), but the lower cables?

Thank you Howard for your ongoing supply of knowledge! I really appreciate this! So much easier to figure out how things work in my clipper.

Is there any chance you have a complete wiring diagram that is still readable after printing? The one I found in the manuals sections is barely readable.

How can I remove the speedometer section and the middle section for easier access to all the switches?
Light switch is not contacting proper so lights go out when driving over a bump or into a pothole. The wiring under the dashboard is a mess (dead ends, uninsulated cables, the lot) and I'd like to sort that out before I start cruising around.

Clemens

JW, indeed it is a very nice one. Could you persuade the SWMBO I'd like to buy it ...

Thanks to packard1949 I can now post a picture of the switch in situ:

And thank you again Howard, these pictures are just great. Resized Image

Since I am in the process of ordering the first batch of stuff, I will add a 4 terminal switch (if possible) to my order.
A major step forward ...

Clemens

Thank you for your very fast response, Howard.
Your information about the correct wiring is an invaluable help!

A quick glance at the steering box yesterday showed: there is no switch, no wiring, no nothing ...
Could anyone provide a picture of this installment?

As for the wiring: I have to get at the light switch anyway, a perfect setting for installing cables the correct way.

Stan, my car may look good from above and not standing close to it, from below trunk and floor are a different matter ....
By the way: It was build only 146 cars later than yours ...

Clemens

Just can't stay away

Clemens
Hello I would like to introduce myself to this nice forum.
My name is Clemens and, since last week, I am proud owner of a 1947 Custom Super Clipper Eight Touring Sedan. Always wanted to have a car from the forties.
Some time ago I decided: It is now or I'll never do it.

Resized Image
Resized Image

It came a long way, dirty and unwilling to start. After some charging and good wash it started to look like a car again.

Currently I am struggling with a lot of tiddly bits to get the car roadworthy i.e. it has to pass the German T?V.

The backing lights do not work, the cable running to the back comes from under the dash and starts in a tangle of black cables. I will have to investigate this further tomorrow.
There should be a switch for the backing lights and I suppose it should be somewhere on the gearbox. Could somebody enlighten me please?

Regards,
Clemens
