I found a Detroit Free Press newspaper dated 1947 under the carpet of a 1947 Custom Super Clipper. It must have been left there by a worker when the car was being assembled. Not exactly under the seat but close.

Gerd, yes game wardens do hunt the hunters in situations when deer poaching is involved. We had several techniques that involved "baiting" the hunter.; primitive but effective.Today the wardens use night vision equipment, aerial patrols and artificial deer (also moose and bear ,)made of styrofoam and are able to remotely move the head and tail. They are quite effective in luring poachers into taking a shot. Some would call it entrapment I suppose. I would call it good law enforcement but I am biased.
Packard V8 I would suspect that a black out light attached to a battery would work as a "jack light." Most amateur night hunters use very powerful spotlights which can be seen for miles on dark nights. I am pretty sure some of the long time residents in the hills of Tennessee have perfected deer poaching at night to a science. The ones I have met sure we're first class bear hunters.

Gerd, I had a similar pair of lights wecalled "blackout lights" mounted on my game warden truck years ago. They were military surplus. They worked quite well by casting enough light on the road in front allowing the vehicle to be driven at a slow speed at night without causing a glare that could be seen at a long distance by deer poachers. On moonlight nights we often drove with no lights but that could be dangerous like the night I drove my truck into a fallen tree! That was an interesting accident report to compose. Very interesting photos of someones private car commandeered for military service I suspect.Thank you for posting a very interesting set of photos.

Absolutely the 120 is a nice car. I wish that I had bought one years ago.

Agreed, it is a nice car. Somehow the interior doesn't look correct but well done nevertheless if accuracy in restoration isn't a big concern.

I had 5th shock replaced on my 1947 Super Clipper by 5 Points in California who also rebuilt the front Delco shocks. It made a difference. I think they merely cut the old shock off the bar and welded on a small shock from a snowmobile or motorcycle but it worked OK and bolted up just fine. If you could locate a small shock absorber approx. the same length as the old one this might be a solution. I also tried driving the car around without it and it certainly seemed less stable. Packard put it there for a good reason and wouldn't have put it on unless they felt it was required so I wouldn't recommend driving without the it.

I had Napa gas filled shocks on my 47 Super Clipper and had no complaints. I agree with Troy that KYB are an excellent choice also as would be Bilsteins if you can find a version that would fit your car. I have Bilsteins on my BMW and GMC Motorhome and they really make a difference in handling and stability. They aren't cheap however!

Tim, Well in this case it is not a big loss if it gets fried but I will take your advice and not use it as a power source. Thank you for that information.

Thanks, Great information. I am aware of the difference between R9 and R11 but not of amperage requirements. I doubt that my charger has sufficient amps to test properly. The solenoid was working when it was in my car so probably OK as is the Governor. The relay was taken from a parts car but seems to test ok in that the points will open and close when connected to 6 volt power.
