You can also try Motorcycle fork oil. It comes in a wide variety of weights, so tuning the ride is easy!

A fellow Packardite would like to know how to reassemble a '48 door latch assembly. He sent me this picture of the parts. Anyone have any insight on this? I still have to look at my '48s door latch, but I figured I'd put this picture out there to see if anyone can help. Thanks and a huge hat tip to all!

22nd and 23rd series water pumps

Good Morning All,
A fellow Packardite (new to the fold) queried me about whether '48-'50 Packards require that the water pumps be packed with grease to keep them from leaking.
This is a new one on me. Apparently someone told him that and he questioned me about it. Anyone ever heard of such a thing? I figure if the seal is shot, it's going to leak no matter what is put in it. Thoughts, abuse and head scratching welcome!
I'll check service bulletins when I get a chance.

Thanks for all the input. I've purchased one from a fellow Packardite and it's soon to be on ity's way to me.

Thanks for the info. I've found one and purchased it. I was just curious about the backstory. I've hears they were an optional accessory available through dealers only. Word is they were to commemorate the Golden Anniversary of Packard.

O.K, so the Egyptian ornament was only offered '48-'50 to commemorate the 50th anniversary? Does anyone make a repo?

Thanks for the links Eric. I've seen those 2 on ebay. I've had someone offer to sell me one for much less. I'm still waiting for pictures of it.

I'm looking for the Egyptian style hood ornament that was an accessory in '49-'50. I used to work (eons ago) in a custom paint and body shop and I'm aware of what some have tried to pass off as the proper shade. Thanks for your input!

I'm in the market for an Egyptian hood ornament. I'd like one for my '48 Touring Sedan which is going to be painted "Egyptian Sand". Any condition is good, I can restore and rechrome.
