HH56,
This looks interesting. Have you talked to ABS to see if they have a replacement for the BTV in Packards? I'll ask about a 55-7 Chevy drop in when I call MPB.

Craig,
Thanks for the info. I printed the pictures from your Panther website and then walked out to my car for a look. Now it's obvious to me why the ratio is 1:1 and why you cut the brake pedal. I may take you up on the offer for the used brake pedal.

I also saw Joe Douglas' post where he had talked to Fred Rupert at MPB. I may give MPB a call and ask exactly what they offered Joe. If they can make a bolt in replacement with the same pedal ratio then I shouldn't have to modify my brake pedal. I'm not sure how they would do that though. I'll guess I'll have to wait until Monday to ask.

Joe,
Have you gone ahead and purchased the treadlevac replacement from MPB? Your initial post on this thread is very interesting. I'm planning on replacing my BTV and am looking for a bolt in replacement. Craig's setup looks great but I'd like to keep the stock location of the brake pedal if pssible. I was wondering if you have any new information.

Craig, Eric,

OK, you need the extra leverage the relocation gives you to make the foot pressure acceptable. Is there no room on the other side of the firewall to use spacers on the MPB mounting bolts? Looks like the frame rail is too close. Also, why do you have to cut the brake pedal? In its new location does it interfere with moving the right foot from the accelerator to the brake? I'm a right foot braker and don't want to change.

I tried to change for a while when I had surgery on my right foot and it was a harrowing experience. Using my right foot to brake has become ingrained and I found I had to think about which foot to use. In an emergency I don't want to have to think about which foot to use.

Craig,
After reading through this thread, and having my BTV fail on me once already, I've decided to go ahead and install the 7" unit from MPB in my '56 400. It seems like a straight-forward installation but I do have a question about your brake pedal modification shown on your Panther web page. As mine is a '56, can I use the stock padal without any modifications? It looks like it would be an easy fit. What am I missing?

OK, thanks for that info. I thought it might be too easy if all the vacuum attachments were in a base plate. Oh well, we'll just have to figure out the vacuum attachments on the new Edelbrock.

Here are a couple pictures of my carb. It looks like a seperate base plate. It's a different color and material. I haven't taken it off though so I don't know if it's part of the carb or seperate.

Jack,
Attached is a picture of the shaft where it enters the pump. I don't have a micrometer so it's not precise, but the shaft appears to be 7/16". Not having the tools to remove the shaft, I think that will have to wait for another day.

Eric,
I took a look at my current carb and noticed my it has a baseplate with vacuum ports. Do I use that plate with the Edelbrock or do I use vacuum fittings on the new carb? Also, do I need to fabricate a new fuel line from the fuel pump or should I attach to the current line? BTW, I bought the Edelbrock with adapter and 14" air cleaner. I should get it this week.

PackardV8 aske if I would post some photos of the rebuilt oil pump I received from Bob Aller. Attached are some shots of the pump from my 56 400. If anyone would like some other shots closeups, just ask.
