Ultramatic leaking from the manual valve seal.

Can someone tell me what I need to do to stop fluid from leaking from the manual valve lever shaft that goes to the PB actuator control assembly. How do you get the shaft seal to stay tight. I've replaced it 3 times and it still leaks from the actuator shaft.

Leaking transmission fluid from around the band adjustor nut

Does anyone know if there's an exploded view of the right side of a '56 push-button ultramatic transmission that shows the parts breakdown. I'm leaking transmission fluid from around the band adjustor nut and I would like to know how to stop this leak. Plate #35 of the the parts book doesn't tell me if there's a seal/gasket or not. If someone has a part number, I sure would appreciate it; or better yet, how to stop this leak. Thanks.

How do you stop transmission fluid leaking from around the "band adjuster nut" on the right side of a push-button ultramatic? Is there a seal or does someone have an exploded view of the right side of the transmission that shows a part number? HELP !

Greendragon I'm interested in your kit. Do you have one (premium) ready to go for a "56 senior? If so, let me know the costs and how do I get it. Thanks.

Re: Twin Ultramatic Shifting

Thanks for all the good info. I should be able to get to this puppy in a couple of months.

It consistently does NOT shift when I'm in the "D" position regardless of my speed. I've even tried de-celerating to get it to change out of 1st gear, but it still does not change. However, once in a blue moon, it surprises me and decides to shift when I least expect it to. When it does shift, its at around 10-15 mph and I'm not accelerating hard.

Since I'm guilty of having a heavy foot, am I correct in understanding that I should use the "H" position more so than the "D" position? Under what situations would I use the "D" position?

Before I tear into the tranny, are there any additives or fluids I could use to unstick any sticky valves if that is the problem? Also, would my using Dextron II have anything to do with it not shifting out of 1st gear?

My '56 Senior pushbuttons are on the right side of the column, is this what you mean by "Drive-right or Drive-left"?

Can someone tell me why my '56 400 pushbutton twin ultramatic has a tendency NOT to shift out of 1st gear when I'm in "Drive"? It shifts fine when I'm in "High"?

Joe, do you remember exactly what year/make of car you got the "early GM pulley" and the "BBC 21.5" clutch fan" from? Is the pulley a single or double groove? I'm almost there with my fabrication, but it sure would help to know where to go looking for these last two items. Thanks.

Thanks. Would you also send me a picture of your alternator bracket as well so I'll have a general idea where/how to start fabricating my own? Also, do you recall the year and model the fan is from? I also have the stock Packard AC mount on my car and I was wondering how to convert it to use the Sanden compressor without having to totally remove it. Any help in this area is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Hotrod.

Thanks, good info. I have a '56 Packard V8 and would like to install a clutch fan. What kind/year of GM clutch fan and water pump flange do I need to get and did you have to do any machine work to get them fan to fit? Also, I would like to install AC as well. Can you tell me where you got your AC/Alternator brackets from? Thanks.
