Did anyone else notice that at the top of page 63, that the 21st series Custom is labeled as a 1948?
Oh well, I guess I should get used to it by now.
Small things, but I think the magazine is great. I do appreciate that did the Packard issue.

I don't currently have any direct evidence about the caps and wheels delivered on export cars. But, the picture is of the U.S. taxis. I believe they and the exports were equipped the same.

All 2nd and 23rd series cars had the seal. It was glued in place. t was not in the groove it was between that an the finished cowl edge. In fact during the 22nd series production the placement and length of the seal was modified. It was lengthened and placed over the regulator to help keep the water off of it and shorting it out. I can get the exact shape and length if you need it.

Re: Packard Wives: Nature or Nurture?

I think there must be something in their background or genes. My first date with my wife was over 42 years ago. I picked her up in my 1934 Plymouth coupe. I kid that she fell in love with it before she did me. So she has had to put up with my cars for many years. t used to be any old car, even brand X and Y. I built a 48 Chevy coupe for her to drive to school; after she started teaching. She loved it. More recently I bought and restored a 47 Custom Super Eight Packard sedan. We both love it.
My wife, like many others has become weary of riding in any car without air conditioning. I guess we have become spoiled.
I have placed an extension from the house phone in my shop. So she can reach me anytime.
I also try to support my wife's interests when we travel with our Packards. I'm always willing to stop and let her visit quilting shops or other points of interest. All part of our give and take.

I use instant detailer at shows and between real wax jobs. I'm sure you're aware of this stuff, but could that be what you saw them use?

Ivory was also on the Super 8 like the custom. Eights had a brown/black color. The Supers and Customs had chrome "grips" on the top of the spokes. The sixes and Eights had a instrument surround that was brown and not Chrome.

I hope this information helps in your restoration.

Wood grain is correct for sedan dash boards and window surrounds. Convertible dashes, on the other hand, should be body color, while their window surrounds/sills are chrome.

I agree that with the compression numbers you listed the car should run. I also believe that a valve job would help a geat deal. I am wondering about timing. When you have the distributor cap off check to see if the distributor cam wll rotate around the dist. shaft. It is possible that the shaft has sheared and it is only turning by friction.
Make sure when you set the distributor rotor to point to #1 that #1 is actually on the compression stroke and not the exhaust stroke.
With all you have done you probably have already done all of this. But, I just thought it might not hurt to check.
