1953 Packard Mayfair Hardtop Convertible. I saw this listed as a members car for a club. I didn't think that Packard made a hardtop convertible. Any thoughts on this?

When I was at the same point I took the car to the store and had them shoot the color with a camera. Only to come up with the depth match. But they said my car didn't come in metallic. Yet everything I found said yes. So I lucked out and the DM said hold on. He called PPG and asked for the historic department. What happened next is that they have all the plates of all the cars made. ( 1 metal plate for each color made for each year of all cars) So they shoot that 1948 Dark Blue Packard color and sent the codes to my store.

Well you could go to any carpet store and have them order a wool rug and then have then cut and bind it. Then add the pad to the back of that. I did price it out and it was about the same cost as buying a wool carpet set.

Funny thing happened on the way to the .... But today I just received the carpet set I had mad from SMS. I haven't installed it yet but it looks good. I do have a 48 custom 8 an yes I know I can never replace the moss tread carpets. But I also decided that I don't have a totally restored car and I use it for fun and a driver. So instead of ordering wool I went with the other. So far I am happy. Here's the link.http://www.smsautofabrics.com/products/carpet.php My only thought was the original had a rubber backing and this has a fiber backing. I might go get some rubber and put tat down also. I will keep you posted.

I have a question that you might be able to answer. Can you replace the antenna cable on the these?

You are right if you score the board it will bend and give you a sharp edge . I took the original and placed it on the board ( the board was white on the back and tan on the other side) opening of the glove box to white side. Then after I cut it I looed at which was the bends went and scored the opposite side. Does that help? Then I stapled it together (heavy duty) then worked down the ends of the of the staples.

Glove Box

Now that I have been playing with my 48 for a while I decided that it was time to fix the glove box. I know it was flocked originally but I also know that doing that might get really involved . So this is what I did and it worked great. The old one just was falling apart so I finally decided to make a new one. So when I got it out I made a pattern then I raced out and bought box cardboard. What I made with it was great and if gave me a clue to make it better. The biggest problem is that the cardboard was to thin. In looking at the original I realized it was about the same thickness as what a picture framer would use. So I called a friend that did that and asked if I could buy some from him. After I got it he said here I have tons of this stuff that is extra left over from jobs. So he gave me three pieces and I made my first one. It came out excellent but, what I didn't realize was I did it backwards so I took another one and used the original and traced it and cut it out. Then went to Auto Zone and got the same clips that were on the original and with in 5 minutes it was in the car and it looks great. I hope this helps out someone.
