Still researching the source for the the interior material and windlace items,

Who did you get the headliner form?

Commenced working on the interior side panel to head liner meeting area,

As mentioned the smaller windlace trim was nailed to the side frame,

I found that they used shimming cardboard strips to provide leveling of the surfaces. (Use that process for sheetrock work and had not thought about using it for this application.)

As you can see I only released a little section to allow access to the headliner to trim a piece for color match.

Check out the color change over the last 85 years.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

SEAT SPRINGS,

Finished removing springs from burlap bags. Tagged the 2 different sizes and marked the final compression height for reassembly.

I found some gutter nails that can be pushed through the burlap to hold the springs over compressed to allow for the bag closing stitch across the top of the burlap then removed.

Measured the dimensions of the spring bag assembly and marked for a template.

Rear seat cover removal completed.

I found that the burlap and cotton batting were hog ringed to the metal side frame and as close as I can determine it was also tacked in place on the top and bottom tack rails.

The front bottom was set in alignment with the base of the front frame and then pulled tight to the top frame and tacked and trimed.
Then the sides were hog ringed to the side frame and trimed.

Check your NAPA Parts store, The bearings in a lot of the cars were common across several maker lines, My 37 6 has wheel cylinders that fit up into the early 50's chevy,

Worked on the rear seat spring set today.

Used a large pair of side cutters to roll the hog rings out.

Marked spring sets for orientation and row numbering.

Found the burlap bags were a continuous sheet of pockets and that reinforcement rods were passed trough them front to rear.

I cut the old bag material on the red lines that I painted for orientation and alignment.

I'll need to open the metal frame chanel at each rod location and insert the rods through the new burlap bags as I reassemble.

Also wire brushed rusty areas ( thank you little gray fuzzy critters) and coated areas with RustMort in preparation for a repaint
Here's some pictures of todays progress

Photos attached
Condition of interior upon purchase several years ago and as removed this week
(Photo numbers last 4 digits for reference )
0333 are tacks that have been riding around for for the last 84 years waiting to be used for the completion of windlace replacement... Thanks to the original installer as I no longer need to find a source.

9116 is the door post with windlace tacks and 18 ga brads protruding out. It appears that the windlace was installed then the inner upholstery was brad nailed to the wood backers .
Anyone have info on this operation. It's kind of scary to take a brad nailer to the surface of the new upholstery to attach the back panel in place.
Thanks Larry

OK, Here goes a "project"
Commencing a restoration of the original tattered upholstery .
I'm starting in the rear with the seats and side panels.
I have a friend who is going to do the stitching.
We are progressing slowly on the de-construstion of the original material to generate pattern material.

A question ( one of a million to come LOL) about the thin gray matting found under the rear side arm rests. It looks like mill felt. ( my term)
Any info on process, Material, Watch for's head liner woes,, Etc..
I'll attach several photos of the progress so far shortly.

Well it's been a while since I did an update.
So. Long story shortened.
I ended up with a faulty "reman distributor"
Found after many checks on everything but the distributor.
In the process I warped the head and the grandson assisted in the removal for reworking.
The chrome shop sent the front bumper to another customer. The lost my center bumper guard,
I found a usable core guard at David Moe's summer garage sale. Along with a wiper motor and Reman fuel pump.
Also had the speedometer start squealing
during a test drive so had that serviced.

Also added a couple of still shots.
Hopefully not upside down. ;)
