Thanks Drew, did you prime it, or is it a DTM (direct to metal)?

I really haven't looked at the engines with the Hirsch paint. So I am still open to using to it.

Thanks,

Mark

Grey engine paint from Bill Hirsch...

Hi all,

It's only a short time that I will get a phone call from my machine shop letting me know that my engine rebuild is complete on my '49 327.

That being said, I have been going back and forth on how to paint it. The machine shop will paint it for me, if I buy the paint. So I was going to purchase the grey paint thru Hirsch. But I think that I have decided that I would like to use a single stage catalyzed paint, as I have seen many examples of them standing up much better.

Which brings me to the problem that I don't have a sample that I can take to the paint shop to mix a batch.

Does anyone have some extra dabs of the Bill Hirsch grey paint that they might be willing to share? I am willing to pay a couple of bucks, along with shipping. Maybe I have some parts for a 48-49 that I could trade.

I would also plan on sharing the color formula with all.

Thanks,

Mark

Paint manufacturer code for engine paint...

Hi,

I have a 22nd series with a grey/gray engine. I am deliberating having it painted by the bodyshop. ...figuring a catalyzed paint will hold up better than an air drying oil based paint. Are there any paint (mfg) codes out there for the engine paints?

Otherwise the I know that I will need to match it.

Thanks,

Mark

Interesting. I have a spare straight 8. If I make a table out of it, I don't think that I'll be able to move it to sweep or vacuum under it.

A 22nd series in "The Gangster Squad"...

Hi all,

I saw The Gangster Squad last night. In it, a 22nd series (Custom 8) made several appearances. ...although they stated that the year of the movie was 47. That would be a little early for a 22nd series, wouldn't it?

Also, was a line in the movie about a captain, who had just purchased a "new Packard out in the parking lot". I'm surprised and impressed that they didn't refer to a Cadillac. As everyone today knows what those are.

Today it's 2 degrees in Chicago! A far cry from 10 days ago or so when a poster from the Chicago area took his car out in 50 degree weather.

Stay warm!

Mark

P.S. I liked the movie. ...although it was a little "comic stripish" maybe. If you see it, wait until after the opening scene to start eating your popcorn!

I would use the coil spring compressors. ...not to expensive, and it may not be the only time that you use them.

Good luck!

I Think that I started SK in 2011, but they sent me 10 back issues. So I'll look.

The gentleman with the company said he is backlogged 4 months, and is basically taking work for next year. So they either have alot of work, because of being good, or are just slow at turnaround.

Thanks,

Mark

Vendor for rebuilt running board and door sill mats...

Hi,

As I'm working on my '49 seven passenger, I hooked one of the door sill mats and it just cracked off. I was reading this month's Skinned Knuckles magazine and I saw an add for a rebuilder of running boards and door sill mats. I gave him a call and he said that he has a set of NOS mats that he replicates. He will call me back with the exact dimensions (and price) to confirm what I have. (I also have a standard 8 sedan that is "in process").

Has anyone had any experience with Running Board Rubber Company?

Thanks!

Re: Hidden Briggs body tag on 22nd-23rd series cars...

When the weather gets warmer, in about two months, I'll look a little closer.

The only tag that I know of is on the seat bottom itself. I think that they called it the "select-o-seat". ...where you were able to choose the firmness of the seat itself.

Stay warm everyone!

Hidden Briggs body tag on 22nd-23rd series cars...

Hi all,

I think that I know the answer to this, but I have learned to always ask the knowledge base to be sure. I have known/thought that the only Briggs body tags are on the firewall. During my search for a replacement engine (cracked block) I have spoken to many nice individuals who had engines for sale. As I spoke to one individual, we were talking about the body tags and he told me that there is a "hidden body tag" under the rear seat. I think that he said on the driveshaft hump.

I did pull my rear seat. ...and there is no tag there. But as it was cold as heck out in the garage, I didn't pull the rear seat back to reveal that area.

Is anyone aware of a second body tag on these cars?

Thanks,

Mark
