Dave,

Thanks for the quick response. Do you know how the glass in the rubber channel is held in place - I was thinking a several small brackets screwed into the wood frame that would slightly overlap the rubber.

Rear Window & Windshield on a '32 901

This past weekend I installed the 6 pieces of glass that go on the two sides of the car leaving the rear window and the windshield. I have questions concerning both.

I got a piece of weatherstrip channel (Steele Rubber)for the rear window, cut and glued it together to fit the glass. How is the 1) glass held in place,2) should I use a sealant, and 3) if so what is usually used)?

On the windshield, I searched and saw on an older AACA post that the brackets that hold it open were only used for one year and impossible to find. Has this changed or does anyone know of a source or could someone out there take a picture or two so I could see what they look like?

They appear to be more of a field find and not a barn find.

I worked in an aerospace in a lab and made thousands of flares over the years. Some with simple flaring tools and others with expensive ones on copper, aluminum, mild & stainless steels.

At home, I have a Ridgid 345-DL and have been very impressed with the ease and quality of the flares it makes. As mentioned above for a double flare, make sure everything is square and get your depths right and you'll get a great flare every time.

There have been several threads posted recently concerning overheating radiators. One of the best products that I've ever used was DuPont's #7 Radiator Cleaner, which is no longer available.

O-D (Dave) has mentioned it several times and has posted on the AACA Forum (3rd post) how simple it is to use. The oxalic acid is available on Amazon for $9 with free shipping and ordinary baking soda is a cheap source for the sodium bicarbonate used to neutralize the acid.

Oxalic acid is not a strong acid and can be safely used by wearing gloves, eye glasses or protective splash shield and by taking precautions to avoid being splashed with hot water.

One word of caution is not to use it in a system with aluminum.

To get ready for the arrival of the window glass I performed the following:

1. Cut and installed the window run channel in the car.
2. The door glass channels were all cleaned up and painted.
3. The rubber weatherstrip seal that goes in the door glass channel was installed.

I received the windshield last week and the rest of the glass should show up in a couple of days. The screw holes for the windshield hinge on the car were cleaned up with a 8-32 tap. Oval head 8-32 machine screws have been order and should arrive this week. Since I could not find chrome plated screws, I bought stainless steel screws and the heads will be polished to look like the chrome plated frame.

I have the hardware that latches the windshield frame to the body and will need to clean it up a bit and then send it out for chrome plating. I cannot find the hardware that holds the windshield slightly open and was wondering if someone out there could take a few pictures of one on their car so I have a better idea of what I should be looking for in my various boxes of parts.

BDC,

Nothing like a little humor to start a Friday off on. That project is a little rougher than I would like. Besides which I already have a '32 engine that's under foot that I'm try to get rid of see (For Sale) .

Better yet is the engine in my '32 that I'm already restoring, which is finished. To get a peek at it just click on the links in my signature block with "Big Sister"..

However, for the $35K I felt like the Light being only 75 miles away deserved a look see. I really wanted to see the quality of the interior as I'm approaching that stage in my restore and he is a local person.

Besides which the drive up there from Simi Valley is along the coast with with nice views on the Channel Islands. Not to mention that several of our preferred eateries along the way.

Good call by BDC on the Shovel Nose selling quickly. I talked to the seller this morning and it had already sold and was scheduled to be pickup by a transport company tomorrow.

Son was selling his deceased father's car.

Oh well it saved me a 75 mile trip to Santa Barbara.

David,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Looking at the door's construction that's what I thought, but wanted to be sure before putting the glass in.

Thanks Again.

I'm getting ready to install the glass in the car. I see that there are drip pans for water to run into the two windows in the very rear of the car that flows out through the rear fenders Does anyone out there know if the four doors had drip pans that served the same purpose?
