BDeB-- Well, this is really embarrassing! I don't know how I missed your response with the attached PDF. So here I am six years late thanking you for your time and effort. I've downloaded your PDF and again... Thanks!

FWIW, my 1941 180 has a triple horn, so they did vary by model.

No big deal, but the grill you are using for comparison is the unique grill used only on the 23rd Series Super Eight.

I distinctly remember one of those installed on the hump of our new 1961 Ford on the way to Las Vegas. In the middle of the Mohave Desert my mother made my father turn it off and open the windows. The interior of the car was like the Deep South in August. They really didn't work (at least the model we had didn't).

^^^ This has been my understanding also. Absolutely no question on the 23rd Series. The only question might be on the spelling of 'Gray' or... 'Grey', guess it depends on how British you are.

Just be aware that there have been a few reports over the years of 6 volt starters breaking the snout off when the bendix gear slams into the end under the additional speed caused by 12 volts. This may not happen to you but... it has happened.

Had exactly the same problem. The mechanic attempted to twist the stuck hydraulic lifter out of the seat. The result was not nice to see. The top half of the follower broke into pieces. This required pulling the cam to replace the broken follower. Ross' idea of crushing the hydraulic lifter makes good sense.
