All and all I came out great. It was easy to do and my only and big mistake was that I had a battery shut off. I never took it off and after I was done the car wouldn't run or even turn over. After having my dad come look at it went over the hold thing and realized that I had it all right he just shook his head and said he would have his mechanic look at it in the am. Well that night he said he had a dream about it. At 5 am in the morning he drove over took off the shut off switch. In the end the minute he took it off all was right. LOL

Sorry I have been away. The car drives like a dream. I have never had a problem with it. I just want the overdrive to work. I think it would really float down the road. OK not float but would move with more ease.

Thanks for the information. I would say that my engine doesn't have that many miles on it. The one in the car only had 27K but the gal that had it in storage didn't understand how to keep a block from having a 12 inch crack. YUG. So I had to get another engine and it had sat also for years. So in the beginning it smoked a lot but now not so much.

Well to be honest I don't know either. The car only has 27K on it and that is one thing that isn't hooked up. But he said there were broken parts. I just want to know can I just take it off and send it to the specialized guy without having to not run the car. There are so many shows that I want to do and I just want to get this one last thing fixed.

On another thought. My 48 custom 8 is a bit of a smoker. I have had the valves adjusted but would love to have the rings replaced. Can I get that done without pulling the engine? I was thinking maybe they could loosen the motor mounts and then dropping the pan. But I am not sure that could be done. It is so much easier to ask before I jump into the snake pit. You all have saved me many times in the past I just thought I would ask.

I have a custom 8 1948 that the overdrive doesn't work. I have had a mechanic look at it and he said that the fork was broken. I am wondering if I can pull that off and have it all rebuild while I still have the car to drive around with. Summer is so short in NE that I just cannot bear to be without it.

I am looking for body molding clips and the bottom molding clips that have the blot and nut for a 1948 Custom Eight. Where can I find them?

The rear is the same. The chrome goes on first which has some kind of glue in the inside grove. Then attach that to the body. Next rubber then window.

I have the 48 custom eight. But my question is can you pull the oil pan off with out pulling the motor. I would love to replace the rings but don't really want to pull the engine. And since I am ok and small stuff and I know that there are many that have great advice I would love to hear from you.
Thank
J

Thanks guys. Before I got back to this I just cut the bolt off and kept the project moving forward. Though my friends think of me as ok with old cars. I still have things I just don't like to do... SO I ask questions before I really get myself into trouble. IE I was going to take the fender. YIKES what was I thinking. Anyway thanks for all your help in advice you have given my over the years.
