Bill - I've always resurfaced heads before reinstalling, because I hate having to re-do the thing. But a good machinist should be able to put a steel straight edge along the head in various locations and tell you if it should be resurfaced.

Well the body has been painted and color sanded. The fenders need to be color sanded to finish off the car's paint job.

Next step will be to do some touch up on the frame areas that will show. Then install the firewall and remount the body in the correct location.

Again thanks to all. I think I have a pretty good handle on how to install the lacing. I'll place an order tomorrow and hope to install it in a couple of weeks.

Thanks Again

O-D, Tim & Dave;

Thanks for all of the great wealth of information and outstanding photos. I think I have the wire for the cowl area, but not for the radiator. I'll need to go to the place where I think they are stored to hopefully get them. I'll be ordering the lace and drive nail set from Max Merritt.

Hope to get to it in a couple of weeks - assuming there isn't a problem.

Thanks To All

Hood lacing - 1932 on a 901

I'm ready to buy & install the hood lacing on my '32 901. What is the correct width and how should it be attached?

Also, is there one company out there whose lace is more correct than someone else's?

Thanks

David,

Thanks for the information. The same window on our '51 200 broke about a month ago and I just received the replacement glass on Monday.

I hope to do the replacement this weekend. Your instructions are very clear and it looks like it should go fairly smoothly.

Thanks Again for posting - Marty

Well I've reached a milestone on the project. All the body work has been completed and the car is finally getting final paint. I went through over two gallons of primer, a little body filler, and uncounted feet of sand paper preparing the body and four doors. The hood, fenders and other lower parts had already been painted by the previous owner. He was going with Packard Blue and black, which was the car's original color

The wife and I decided on Carnival Red (IM-504) for the upper section and black for the lower parts. Carnival Red is a cherry color and was a paint that was available in 1932.

We know that this was not a Packard color in '32, but we are taking advantage of the fact that you could get the car any color available then. Also, that the car could have been ordered from the factory in just primer. Based on this logic, we are not painting the upper section following the paint guidelines in the manual. Only the center belt will be the same as the lower section and the areas around the window will be the same as the rest of the body.

I was going to shot the final paint, but decided to have it done. The four doors and four hood panels have been painted and color sanded.

I went on Ancestry.com and looked for records for Mr. Kaptur hoping to find a Family tree to get a contact name for a son, daughter, or grandchild. There were no Family Trees that were posted. However, there is a 2002 phone book listing for "Vincent D Kaptur". This may be a son or grandson. The address is 5882 Blandford Rd., Broomfield Hills, Michigan, 48302-4027. Phone (area code have changed) of 248-644-2669.

I would call and or write. If he is a relative, he may have information or family stories to tell.

Good Luck

Packardberry & Tim,

Thanks for your inputs. I was leaning toward a blind screw type approach. However, I thought that I would be well advised to call on others for their thoughts & input.

It will definitely cut down on the chances of messing up the paint.

Thanks for your quick response.
