'32 Hood Hinge
Home away from home
Home away from home

Marty or Marston
The four hood panels are now painted. I need to install the side strip, hood hinge on the two top panels. The ones that was there originally was riveted. I'm trying to find rivets (chrome plated if possible). Does anyone out there know of a good source and is there a tool that I can use other than my 4 pound ball peen hammer (LOL)?

All ideas and suggestions are welcome on this part of the restoration.

I've also used TCP Global. I've been to their store several times picking out the color I want for my 901. Their color library has over 125,000 paint chips in it going back to 1903.

In their on-line color library they show a '37 color chart with Packard Cream in it. Call them up and you should be able to order a quart in acrylic enamel to see if it is what you want.

While they will not tell you who makes their store brand, their warehouse is full of 50 gallon drums of PPG. I my tour of the warehouse, I did not see all other drums from another manufacturer. It is priced at 2/3s the cost of PPG.

Just an off course comment on this subject. The "over-engineered for the roads of the day" are rapidly becoming the 'roads of the the day', especially here in the California A.K.A "World of the reincarnation of Governor Moon Beam and era of Post Governor Terminator".

Now that I'm off my soap box, good luck with the Shimmie, which is much better on a young size 4 female than an Old but Beautiful Lady in her 80's.

Re: Restoration Shop Paint?

I've been to their plant in San Diego. Very impressive, while they cannot tell you who their supplier is for their Restoration paint, the store room is packed full of pallet after pallet stacked three and four pallets high of PPG paint.

Their paint library goes back to 1903 has contains over 125,000 'paint chips'. Granted the older ones may have changed, but they can and will match to it.

I have it from a very reliable source that the Restoration paint will meet all PPG specifications.

I plan on using it on my 901 when I get ready to paint it.

I must agree with Craig on the movie/film business. I have several close friends in the business and they only have horror stories to tell about it. They would only consider renting if they were the only person to drive the car and if there were NO stunts to be performed.

One of them told me about a new Corvette that one of the studios used in the Los Angeles area. They had it for one night and drove it for less than 100 miles that night. When it was picked up by the owner, the car was so thrashed it should have been considered totaled.

I think they are different shops. Basing this on the light fixtures. Also, the first one appears to have fire sprinklers hanging from the ceiling. Would this have been something one would see in the mid-30's?

Jim,

That's what I thought since the wood sill had been replace and since the holes were not very round. I had always planned on welding metal in place to cover the hole, but got cold feet just before striking an arc.

Always better sure than sorry. It is nice to have all the bad sheet metal replaced now. I started grinding yesterday on the 8 feet of weld that were done several nights ago. With any luck all of the body work should be done before years end and everything primed.

Thanks Again to All for your help.

Ozstatman,

You missed the mark altogether, the point is to get the car rolling, not some dumb ball.
