Works for me. I can create a a FAQ (Read Me First) Forum, where only selected moderator are allowed to post, but all are allowed to read. The moderators can add threads about the most common asked questions with links to the various previous discussion threads on the manner.

Does this sound like it would work for everyone?

Eric,

Have you tried to reboot your Mac and/or Internet Router? I had an issue a few days ago where it was failing to load certain websites, and rebooting the Mac caused it to purge and clear all the cached DNS entries, and everything was good again.

Eric,

Have you tried to do a "reset" via the menu on Safari? I am using Safari 4, and have not experience the problem you are seeing. If other people are seeing the same issue, then I will force a reboot on the server.

I haven't noticed anything in particular. But then again I have been in Atlanta all week. I will take a look at the server logs.

Re: A variety of questions about newly acquired '54 Clipper

I have found 3 different bolt patterns that were used by Packard in '54. So make you measure the bolt pattern before buying a rim to verify you are getting the correct size. I have been bitten by that. From my research here is what I found on the rim:

54 Seniors, same as previous seniors
54 Super Clippers, same as previous Clipper
54 Clipper Specials and Deluxes, use the same rim as the 55 Clippers (smaller bolt pattern and different hub-hole size)

The same also applies to drums and most brake parts.

Download the '54 Wire Diagram from here:

https://www.packardinfo.com/xoops/html/downloads/diagram54.pdf

This is a hi-res vector version of the diagram that you can zoom in with at greater detail. I redrew this a couple of years ago to correct mistakes in some of the other diagrams. This is also applicable to a lot of the previous years.

I think the piece you are referring to on the manifold is the heat riser on the exhaust manifold. It has a weighted arm on the back side (firewall side), and the front side it should have a thermostatic spring. This allows heat exhaust heat to warm up the carb when the engine is cold, and then the thermostatic spring closes that off as it warms up. A lot of times this thermostatic spring is missing. If it is, then Kanter carries new ones.

Just curious if you can tell us the 8 digit Briggs number (XXXX-XXXX) on the firewall body plate, and also the 8 digit Vehicle number on the driver side door jam plate. This will tell us where you car was in the '54 production run. You may have either the standard Ultramatic if your car was early production, or a Gear-Start Ultramatic if your car was very late production like my '54 Clipper Deluxe Sedan was.

They were actually around before Pinfo. But they was a point there for almost two years where there was no new content added to it. I have checked it recently to see if they have updated anything or added any additional content.

I remember they did have a nice collection of pre-war service letters.

Thanks for the tips Guy. I dont have any issues the clamps that screw tighten. Just the spring style ones. Also I do have all the clamps on the inboard side of the flange. So I know thats not the issue.

I will try to #2 permatex and see if that helps.

I noticed you have band clamps on that hose. Were the spring style ones leaking?

Have you ever used any kind sealant on the inside of the hose or where it connects to make a better seal?

I'm just trying to figure out why the heck I am having so many issues trying to get those spring clamps to seal correctly. All the other style clamps seam to seal just fine. It's almost like the there is not enough overlap when the two sides of the spring clamp slide past one another, and it leaks there. I'm tempted to just put the aviation style ones on, but I really want the spring ones to work. I can imagine then really leaking when the system is hot and pressurized. Well hopefully I wont come home from Atlanta with a huge puddle of coolant under the car.
