Took my micrometer out, measuring 16.995 mm or .6688 ", so a metric shaft on an autolite generator?

Generator pulley nut thread - 39 Packard SIX

Really buggered up the shaft on my generator, fell off bench ad clipped the metal cross member on my bench as I was doing final assembly after repainting it. Tried needle file to clean up the thread but they are pretty messed up and subsequently buggered up the nut as well

I am measuring it using a spark plug/pipe gauge as 3/8" pipe with a 1.25 mm pitch. Originally thought it was 5/8 - 18

Anyone know what the pitch is? Not going to be simple to replace, car has the rare tachometer takeoff off the back of the generator

Thanks in advance

John

Hey Chris

Been busy with Christmas decorations outside, haven't had much free time for the Packard. Motor is done, flywheel resurfaced, pressure plate rebuilt and looks brand new. All new brakes, new SS brake lines on the front, chassis scraped of 80 years of grease and dirt and has been POR 15'd. Floor boards, brushed, welded in repair panels and used POR 15 and some fiberglass to seal it.
Next step, probably next week, marry engine to bell housing, tranny and drop it back in. Hope I recall where all the return springs go!

Great info, thanks all!

I was planning on replacing with grade 8 bolts and lock washers.

Still trying to figure out why the holes have a counterbore

The breather is a short run, next to the block up to the manifold. Manifolds aren't going on till after I have this all in the car. Front clip is completely off, ie: both inner and outer fenders and of course the grill.
IMO, I don't believe this was a factory install as whoever drilled the manifold did a pretty crappy job.

I am redoing the entire firewall as well, so everything is off of it, including the throttle linkage which I just finished restoring.

I have the tools that align that, thanks.

Engine stand worked out great. Next challenge is to finish assy, bell housing, flywheel, pressure plate clutch, throwout and transmission while dangling from the engine hoist!

Actually, on this engine, the breather comes from the fitting on the right rear of the block, through a copper tube to a PVC valve into the intake manifold, go figure!

Flywheel and pressure plate

Just got the flywheel and pressure plate back from the shop. Those of you near San Jose Ca, FleetPride ( formerly BnA friction I think)did an utterly fantastic job on the pressure plate, looks better than new

Looking at the flywheel, I see the mounting holes for the pressure plate are counterbored, why? Bolts, as I recall, were not shoulder bolts

Question today is the torque specs. What torque for the flywheel to crankshaft and what torque settings for the pressure plate to flywheel bolts?

And don't recall seeing lockwashers on bolts holding pressure plate on. Same with flywheel to crank, although these are shoulder bolts. I think they should have them, replacing with all new grade 8 stuff

Thanks

John
