Hello Slan:

Owen Dyneto is correct that Bruce Blevins has reproduced this part for a model 1001. You said your car was a "34 1001" but in 1934 that would be an 1101 model.

Anyway, go to this linkhttp://www.packardsoforegon.com/graphics/EXCEL97%20Version%20Catalog.pdf and go to page 6 and look for part #196944 and see if that is what you need.

Hello Kurt:
I see you are in Michigan. You need to contact Bob Anzalone at R&A Engineering in Manchester, MI. He makes an oil filter housing out of billet aluminum for early 1930's Packards. You would have to call him to find out if it would work on your 1929. He restored my 1941 and I know he has restored several 1930 Packards. His number is 734-428-1808 -- tell him Roger said "hello"

On a second topic, you need to join Motor City Packards. Check out our website, www.motorcitypackards.com Click on the "Application" tab, then print out the membership application and join in the fun.

Best, --Roger--

Merry Christmas to all.

I guess I need to find a more Packard-centric Christmas card than this one:

Re: 1940 Manual shift

Just had a nice long chat with Tim Cole (see post #11) and we discussed that while a lot of parts in the shifter linkage need improving the first place to start would be the shifter LEVERS. They are mounted on the steering column and the parts numbers are:

First and Reverse: 3.328 #360425
Second and Direct: 3.329 #360426

Please see the Packard parts diagram in my post #17.

I also reviewed post #22 from Joe Santana and the parts he is looking for are the shifter lever - he cited one part number 360425.

So it appears a consensus is building for those parts.

I will keep you posted as to our progress.

Thanks.

I now see that this firetruck is already show in the 1911 photo pages by BigKev.

What is really cool is that the firetruck still exists.

Currently it is on loan to the National Packard Museum in Warren, Ohio from the City of Detroit. Those of you that attended the 2006 PAC National Meeting would have seen it on display at the PPG. The NPM has a photo of the firetruck on their webpage under Photo Gallary > 2006 National Meeting.

In post #11 Joe wrote:

"I couldn't find a formula for the brownish color used for so many parts on the inside of the car. The only part I had left with that color was the steering column."

If the 1940 interior trim color is the same as in 1941, then you need to use PPG Delstar DAR 23013.

It is a light tan color used on the steering column and the hand brake. Maybe the top bows too and maybe some misc. small parts - cannot remember all just now.

Hello Howard:

We have looked into all of those alternatives. Joel Ray of Patrician Industries is the Director of Projects for Motor City Packards and would have told us if an NOS part is readily available. As for a fix kit we thought of that too, but how do we make a fix kit when the parts my wear out in somewhat different places. And if you have the part off to fix, then why not put on a new part, made of better materials?

While we have not priced out the part, we had very good results reproducing the 3003 light bulbs for 1933-34 Packards and spring covers for 1938-39 cars.

Today the real issue it seems to be if we are all talking about the same part. We thought the shifter LEVERS were the culprit and someone else has suggested the problem is with the shifter FORKS. We need to determine the correct part(s) to reproduce.

Yes, part numbers would be good. And I can see in another comment we need to determine the correct part to reproduce.

The part numbers that Ozstatman listed were NOT the ones we were considering. We thought the shifting problem was with the Steering Column Levers. But we could be wrong.

Below is the part diagram I used as reference. The part numbers we were looking at are 360425 and 360426. Please see the photos attached.

If you think we are on the wrong track, then let me know and we well work on the right parts for the fix.

Re: 1940 Manual shift

Motor City Packards is considering to reproduce the 1-R and 2-3 shift forks.

We now have a set of original blueprints for the two forks. Being in the Motor City we have a wealth of talent and skilled tradespeople that can do this for us. We feel we could reproduce this part in modern materials and do it at a price that would be cost effective.

We feel this would be a useful product, but we do not know how many 1940 to 19XX owners would be willing to purchase these reproduced forks.

If you think this is worthwhile, then please post a response here.

Thanks.
