Thanks!Yes I figured out everything junctions through the starter.I just wanted to make sure I wasnt missing any wires.I am not very familiar with these systems because i have mostly worked on more modern electrical systems.I have determined the V. reg. is good and that the Generator is simply not producing a charge. Thanks for all the help!!

Thanks!!!I will do that today. How many wires/cables should be hooked to the battery on this car?I only have Ground strap and the positive coming from starter.I was just wondering if there should be a seperate charging wire coming from the generator?

Owen_Dyneto:Yes i agree It is unlikely the Kroil will help from the top of the lifter, but I fig. It wouldn't hurt to try!!I will look Into the "Snake Oil's",but Im like you,not very optimistic!!I wasn't thinking very clearly @ 2am this morn. when I mentioned pulling the head's to access the lifter's...LOL Packard v8:Yes It has the vaccum pump on the bottom,I pulled pump apart, cleaned, and inspected, everything looked and felt great,Im pretty sure this Is a 27 year old new pump!!As to the type of relief valve and other question's about pump,I will include picture's i took, hopefully that will answer your question's!!Also when i pulled valve cover last night,I found the "pee hole's" on rockers that you mentioned!!I plan on troubleshooting more indepthly Shortly,I will advise later this evening...Thanks!!!

Ok guy's,Oil pressure is back to earth, Damn pressure relief valve was froze solid!!Now I have 35 or so @ warm idle!!Thank's for all the input!! Back to the lifter/Rocker noise,I pulled the left valve cover where I determined the noise is coming from,or @ least the loudest and it seems as though I have sufficient oil flow. I think I have one lifter that Is not pumping up!!I ran out of gas before I got to thoroughly check each rocker.I sprayed a ton of kroil on top of all the lifter's on that bank! I will troubleshoot further in the morn. and advise!!I hope the kroil might free that sucker up!! Does anyone know of anything else to try short of pulling the head?? Also I did notice a little popping coming back through the carb.,that seem's to further the stuck lifter theory!! Thanks's!!!!

Yes engine did set 20+ years with oil switch removed, although I think It was covered, also I thoroughly cleaned with solvent and blew all that out, before I did anything!!I really don't believe any of that is blocked, although anything Is possible!I did verify that i have oil flow coming through the left longitudal gallerie when I pulled oil filt line's and blew through them!I have not yet pulled valve cover's and verified sufficient oil flow coming through shaft and rocker's,but i will after I correct oil pressure,If noise persist's!!As to my experience level,I am a certified diesel mechanic,I just have never had High oil pressure and rocker noise on the same engine!!Also this Is the first time I have ever worked on a Packard v8,so I know a lot of you guy's have far more experience as to the personality, and problem's that exist with these engine's,and I appreciate your help!!Well I guess It's time to go pull that D**n oil pan again!! I will advise on what I find,Thanks!!!

I don't think it is lifter's,I believe it is rocker arm chatter, sorry for the confusion!! I am wondering If I may have wrong Rocker Arm's or shaft's causing my high oil pressure or Is it the oil pump relief valve stuck as I orig. thought HMMMM?? Engine experts feel free to chime on in!!! THANK'S!!!

It is supposed to be a 55 engine,as far as the pee hole's,Im not sure!Where are they on the Rocker arm?The Pressure is 100+ @ slow Idle, instantly as soon as it's started!Where are you going with removing the valve cover,I also thought about no oil getting to the top end,but I fig. with 100 psi it should be,also I did blow compressed air,and solvent through oil galleries, oil pump pick up,and ETC prior to installing engine!!Are you thinking maybe the wrong R. arms possibly was installed causing It to block the flow to top end? Thanks for brainstorming with me!!!I will be home this afternoon and plan on digging into this thing hopefully It wont get the best of me...LOL!!!
