Not aware of any new exact replacements or used ones available but you can get rubber matting that might do the job from Restoration Specialties--https://restorationstuff.com or
Metro Moulded Parts--https://metrommp.com Some Packard rubber floor mats I have seen have vertical stripes and that type of matting may be available. The rubber matting in my car has a pattern like looped carpeting and although that type of rubber matting was previously available I have not seen any lately. If you are unable to find the looped carpeting like type of rubber mat, perhaps a matching color (black?) looped carpeting might be the most authentic looking replacement.

Automotive Interiors says they may be able to make replacement seat covers using modern materials for some cars. Whether that includes any Packards I do not know. They ask that you send them a "replacement seat cover inquiry". Have not done business with them but they might be worth a try. If you are trying a short term fix to protect your original upholstery until you can do better, buy you a piece of vinyl upholstery material of sufficient length and width, some strong cutting shears, a hog ring fastener tool, and some hog rings, and go to work. That is what I did for my front seat bottom in my 53 Clipper. The result may not be beautiful or authentic but it does provide some protection. Some universal type truck seat covers may also work. Check width and length. Again, may not be beautiful or authentic but does provide some protection. Most universal car seat covers for cars of recent manufacture seem to be too small. Again check width and length. SMS upholstery material and skilled local shops would probably yield the most original, authentic look. Hope that helps!

Concerning the need for a title for a car as old as a Packard, check with your State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). States differ. Some require a title. Some may not. My State of Georgia does not. Obviously if a title is available, even if your State law does not require one, having a title would be an advantage. Because State laws are different you need to check with your State DMV about whether having a title for a car as old as a Packard is required.

Re: Electrical Issue After Washing

Perhaps you should check that the wiring connections to the directionals, headlights, and brake lights are tight. Also keep in mind that the original wiring of that era usually used fabric covers rather than the current plastic coating, so that wires could more easily get wet. If the fabric covers on those wires are fraying or entirely off, replacement wiring would probably be advisable. If all the wiring is similarly problematic, a replacement wiring harness would probably be advisable. If the wiring is in good condition it is still possible that the wiring could have gotten wet and shorted out. Also, keep in mind that waters sprayed in car washes are often at high pressure, so that washing the car by hand would probably be advisable. Hope that helps. Ken

Richie,
Good to have another Packard owner in Georgia! Our local Georgia Packard club would love to have you as a member. Member Bob Haslett has a 47 and maybe you and he can compare notes! Send me a PM and I'll see if I get you in touch with Bob.

Regretfully, I am unaware that anyone is doing such kits for 1929 Packards. If you have any remaining original seat upholstery fabric you may be able to find similar material at Bill Hirsch Autoor at LeBaron Bonney or at SMS Auto Fabrics but unless you are skilled at doing that type of work you will probably want to get it done by a local automobile upholstery shop that does automobile restoration work if you want to get it done right. Ask any friends with old cars in your area if they know of a good local shop.

I think it is pretty clear that both Romney and Nance were strong-willed, ambitious people who both wanted to run the merged company and did not like each other so I would take anything either said about each other with a grain of salt. But it is interesting to have Romney's perspective on the matter.
