I'm actually looking for an R9 trans/OD for my 46 Super Clipper... I had an OD from a donor car, and the tranny was crap (according to my local transmission shop). I already have the shorter drive shaft, so now just need the OD/Transmission... I'm interested. :)

Exhaust Manifold Problems
#2

I'm having a problem with manifold gasket seals blowing VERY quickly in my 1946 Super Clipper with 356 engine, especially the furthest back gasket. When we replaced them, we used the individual gasket set (upon recommendation) instead of the all-in-one gasket. The car ran maybe 200 miles before blowing that last gasket and creating the exhaust leak again.

When we changed the gaskets the last time, we had to remove the manifold completely because one of the studs was bent, which later broke off in removal process, and then the easy out broke, so a super small dental drill later, the easy-out and stud remains were painstakingly removed from the block and a new stud put in.

My mechanic seems to think that the manifold has malformed over the years and through the heat cycles, causing it not to seat properly, which in turn causes that one gasket to blow. It's not that I don't trust him (I absolutely do) but wanted to know if anyone else had this problem or had an idea?

I'm starting to source a replacement exhaust manifold, so if anyone has one laying around... :)

Thanks for the help!

I guess I'm not sure about the difference between Diesel oil and regular oil.

I have the roof antenna, and the mast is broken off. I know it's expensive to have someone do it, but does anyone know what antenna fits?

The motor was rebuilt about 1,000 miles ago. And I could see some highway driving, but probably not cross-country kinds of driving.

Does anyone use Royal Purple synthetic oil, or other synthetic oils in their Packards? My mechanic was suggesting I use it, but wanted to know about others' experiences. I have a 46 Super Clipper with the 356.

Thanks,
Scott

Re: Optima Battery retrofit into 21st series battery tray

I have the long, narrow style battery, but didn't see any battery boxes for those. Just the standard 12v size.

I ordered a tray mount that holds the battery in place from the bottom, instead of from the top. This reduces any issues with possible grounding out, etc.

Thanks everyone!

Optima Battery retrofit into 21st series battery tray

I'm replacing my old 6v battery with a red topped Optima battery, and of course they aren't the same size.

I was hoping people that have changed to optima batteries can share what they have done to secure the battery into the tray. If you would post a picture, that would be awesome as well!

Thanks!
Scott

This is my starter. I'm going to take it to the local tractor repair place, see if they can rebuild it.

Anyone have a starter for a 46 Super Clipper? Mine is dead. Cylinoid is good, but the starter motor won't turn (even when touched to 12v).
