A gentleman I recently met at a local car show said he has a Packard '49 manual transmission (no overdrive) for sale. Since I've got all I need, I thought someone else may be interested. If so, contact Ed Dabkowski at 803-648-5726 (Aiken, SC).

What is the correct McCord radiator for a 1948 Deluxe Touring Sedan with a 288 cu. in. engine? I have two McCord radiators with different numbers (and different thicknesses), and need to determine the model correct one for my car.

Thanks for the photo on the '48. Mine is obviously incorrect.

Since we're on the topic of lighters, does anyone have a photo of the correct cigar lighter for the rear of the front seat of a '48 Deluxe touring sedan?

While on this topic, I have a '48 Deluxe Touring Sedan with a 288. It came with a spare radiator which has a thicker core (fills the side bracket width) than the one installed in the car (doesn't fill side bracket width by one row). Both fit, and work equally as well. Which is the correct one for this car?

I have had similar problems with my '48 with an R9 overdrive. Usually the fixes have been pretty simple. Check all overdrive wiring connections, especially to the relay and kickdown switch, for corrosion and tightness. Also check that the kickdown switch is working (simple electrical continuity check using a multimeter). If not, carefully disassemble it (has small internal springs and sliding contacts)and check for internal corrosion. Examine the contact points inside the relay for corrosion as well. These things have fixed all but one of my OD problems. If the above doesn't correct the problem, try to find a Motors Repair Manual from that period as they have OD troubleshooting flowcharts that are helpful (I can help with that if needed).
