Interesting, JW. The only reason I suspected a panel on the interior side of the trunk bracing was because there were two upholstery screws remaining in the bracing sheet metal. What I've done is buy a 3/16" thick 2x4' panel of blackboard material from Home Depot. Seems to be made of pressed paper, and a bit thicker than necessary, but it will do. However, now I'll have to give some thought to what goes on the trunk side, and whether the bare bracing metal would be behind the back seat. Hmmm.

Thanks to all. I'll craft something out of masonite, maybe, and paint it.

I'm starting to put the interior of the convertible back together. It appears that I am missing a panel that goes between the rear seat back and the trunk. Does anyone know if this was an upholstered piece?

Thanks BigKev. I'll try to spell convertible correctly, the next time.

Thanks Caribbeandude! Now I know. All of the photos I've seen thus far include the louvres. I appreciate the clarification.

This 53 has been in the family since the 1960's, and after a 95% restoration has come to me. Trouble is, I can't quite tell what model it is. It doesn't carry the three Mayfair emblems on the rear fenders, and it doesn't have the hood slot like the Caribbean sports. The VN tag is missing. The Briggs number is 2679 2972. Can I assume that it's a 2679 body type?

Thanks! I'll be back with more questions as I try to wrap this restoration up.
