53 Convertable

This 53 has been in the family since the 1960's, and after a 95% restoration has come to me. Trouble is, I can't quite tell what model it is. It doesn't carry the three Mayfair emblems on the rear fenders, and it doesn't have the hood slot like the Caribbean sports. The VN tag is missing. The Briggs number is 2679 2972. Can I assume that it's a 2679 body type?

Thanks! I'll be back with more questions as I try to wrap this restoration up.
Martin

G'day Martin,

to PackardInfo. I'll leave it to the more knowledgeable here to assist with the identification. In the meantime here's a link to the Model Information here on Site for the 2679 Mayfair Convertible Coupe. And, could you please include your '53 Convertible in the Packard Owner's Registry here, together with a pic, your family's history with it and how you came to own it?

Martin,
That was quick! for including your '53 Packard Convertible Coupe in the Packard Owner's Registry. You've answered the questions I posed, and I like the wide angle pic with the house in the background.

EDIT - Corrected model name per Kev's post

Nice car! Welcome to the website.

A small correction... It just a called a Packard Convertible Coupe. The Mayfair name is reserved for the hardtop only. I have corrected the Model Info page to reflect that.

only the first 150 to 200 of the Mayfair 2dr hardtops and convertibles had the rear jet louvres on them, I heard they dropped them cause dealers wanted to make the 53's look a little more different than the 52's......... this is indeed a 2679 model

Thanks Caribbeandude! Now I know. All of the photos I've seen thus far include the louvres. I appreciate the clarification.

Thanks BigKev. I'll try to spell convertible correctly, the next time.

I didn't even notice your spelling to be honest. My comment was about the Mayfair name be thought of as both a Convertible and a Hardtop. The Convertible was just the Convertible, the Mayfair was the Hardtop.

I never heard of the Jet Louvers being used on a '53. I will take a look at some of the archive photos and see if I can 100% verify that. I would like to see a factory photo with the '53 grille and the Jet Louvers used at the same time.

The Dawes postwar packard book shows a 53 Mayfair with the louvres, I inspected a 53 Mayfair in Atlanta held by first owner still with louvers attached, it was a very early 53 model
