Fellow forum members, I sold my beloved 526 sedan over the weekend, and imagine my activity on the forum will diminish. I've made it very clear to SWMBO that we're now merely between Packards though! Rather than simply disappear, I wanted to thank everyone here for their helpful insight these past few years.

This forum is an invaluable resource, and I've recommended to the new owner that he'd be well advised to join ASAP. Hopefully he does so, and is able to contribute. Until I'm again lucky enough to own one of these magnificent machines, take care.

I have several spare hands from the non-working clocks I purchased to repair the Jaeger piece in my 526. Put a caliper on your shaft and let me know the size. The spare I have is free to a good home if it'll fit!

Looks great! What material are you planning to use to restore the face of the instrument cluster? I wouldn't mind redoing mine...

Stu,

Confirming what OD said, my original 526 & 533 operation and care manual calls for 32 x 6.00. My car has 6.00/6.50-20s, and since you mentioned whitewalls, I believe these are likely what you're after:

https://www.universaltire.com/lester-tires/lester-bias-ply-tires/600-650-20-lester-4-inch-whitewall.html

Good luck getting a hold of a set though! Every time I check on them, it seems the availability date has been pushed further out. Mine don't sound as bad off as yours, but they're hard and showing the first signs of dry-rot, so I've been keeping my eye on that page.

Can't wait to see those pics! Do you have many photos from before the freshening / restoration (mentioned in your registry entry) in the 1990s?

Well, if you just can't bear to part with her, I know where Carol can hurl a lesser gob of cash to acquire a perfectly presentable 526 for her museum ;)

Beautiful! Looking forward to having another active 5th series owner on the forum. I'm sure that rrhorton and I will waste no time PM'ing you for pictures of obscure nooks and crannies from an original :) Looks like an early 5th (like mine) based on the location of the choke and advance knobs.

Here's six pics of the complete assembly. Hopefully this answers your question. Let me know if you need to see anything else.

Are you talking side-mount or rear-mount? I'd be happy to remove the rear spare from my 526 and take some photos if that's what you're after.
