What did you use to polish the trim to restore it to a nice shine?

The Patrician has been upgraded from side yard status to garage! I killed 2 black widow spiders with a through fogging after the move so hopefully no more will emerge once I get started.

Here are some more pictures of the car. If you recall from previous posts this 55 patrician has 56 fenders on it (eyebrow lights) and was one of the last produced in 1955. No additional info has been uncovered on if it was done factory/dealer/past restoration. One picture is with me and my twin boys, please disregard the Ford shirt. :)

I am proceeding with gathering the needed materials to wake up the car from a 10 year plus hibernation. Below is the list. Let me know how you would fill in the blanks and that would be helpful.
1. Done - Mystery Oil
2. Done - Fan Belts
3. Done - Oil Filter - Napa Gold Filter - FIL1006
4. Sturdy jack and Jack stands -
5. Fire Extinguisher
6. Fuel Filter - Napa - FIL3002 or 3032
7. Spark Plugs - Champion 14
8. 12v Battery - need one that will fit and not too expensive
9. Motor Oil - 30weight - seems like a lot of discussion on this here on forums, not sure how to go.
10. Oil pan Gasket
11. Spark Plug wires - kanter?
12. Air Filter - Where do I get an oil bath filter for my batwing case? Or do I clean the one I have? And how?

The car needs lots of under car work, sanding off the grim and repainting. I'm not sure where exactly to start but I figure get the engine running, then go from there.

Here is the Craigslist ad for the Clipper.

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/3188051295.html

I don't recall the interior well, the car was full to the brim with old parts and computers!

Plus it was 115 out so I didn't spend much time investigating.

It wasn't till I got home and looked up the interior pattern from the picture that I realized the difference.

VIN Plate Decode

Was looking at a Packard for sale here locally and found the VIN plate interesting:

5562 = Custom

Trim = 22

But looking through the :

https://www.packardinfo.com/xoops/html/downloads/1955_2_Upholstery.pdf

It looks like this trim was on the Super not the custom. And I thought the point of the Custom was the upgraded interior.

Thoughts?

What brand and where would I purchase the Black paint used for the various engine parts? Air cleaner etc?

Also, any tips/recommendations for stripping current old paint from small pieces and new painting techniques?

Best lifted working position for Patrician

Ok, so hopefully a simple safe answer here.

I would like to know folks ideas for elevating my 55 Patrician in order to get under it to work on things like dropping the oil pan, sanding the rust and dirt off etc. Here is my situation:

I'd like to keep it elevated for more than the 1 to 2 hr increments that I have time to work on it(possibly weeks at a time). I have 4year twin boys that frequent the garage to get into my wife's car so safety is the most important aspect.

I have the torsion leveling so do I need to take any care there?(car doesn't have battery).

Would like ideas for the longer time period of lifting and also for just a couple hours of lift time.

I saw these and they looked good:http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_12000-gvw-ramp-rhino-gear_10157441-p?searchTerm=ramp

Howard,
Do you recall the Blog website for the restore? I'd love to find it to help learn for my own.

I searched for IIRC but didn't find much.

Thanks,

Dan

I have been following along with this 55 Pat on ebay motors.
Hopefully mine will look close to this someday.

Then I was looking through the 5582 list in the owners registry and saw what I think is the same car listed as owned by Morgan.

The auction ended first at what he's set the low price this time. Wonder what he's hoping to get for it.

Ok, I've read through this Post but would like to get some confirmation on what I saw.

I'm looking to get new plugs for my LATE 1955 Patrician(VIN 10027).

I've pulled the current plugs and they are Champion H14Y. The gap looks ok(not smashed).

Should I replace with New Champion H14Y? (H10 originally)

Or should I go with Champion N16YC? (N18 originally)

Thanks.

His Wife had surgery and he was out a couple weeks ago. Give a call, I'm sure he is there.
