Re: climate controlled storage

West Texas is a great place to store cars regarding the low humidity, you will have no worries about rust or mildew. The issues there are high temperature baking plastics and interior materials, and potential varmint damage. I live in McKinney near Dallas which is more temperate and just have my 3-car garage. I have an exterminator in quarterly to bait for mice and spray for bugs. I installed a large window air conditioner which allows me to work comfortably in the summer, but I doubt it would be practical to cool a storage garage all the time...

Welcome aboard. Just out of curiosity how many miles are showing on the odometer???? I'm guessing very low mileage. Probably about 35K???? Low mileage cars of ANY make are a once in a lifetime find, and u found a Low mileage Packard. Very lucky man.

Actually its got 72,081 CERTIFIED miles. The original owner bought it in late 1933 and sold it in 1987 with less than 70,000 miles, about 1200 to 1300 miles per year.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been looking at the downloads in the Literature and Manuals part of this forum, I'll be doing lots of printing! One thing I haven't seen anywhere is a shop manual for a 34, is there such a thing available? I'm just looking for a useable copy to keep in the garage and get greasy fingerprints on...

Hi to all, I am the proud owner of a new-to-me 1934 Packard 1100 Sedan. I've been car-obsessive my whole life but this is my first Packard so I have a lot of education ahead of me. This car is remarkably original and heavily documented back to its original purchase, something I have never experienced on past cars. I just added the car to your registry although it was already there under the previous owner. My intention right now is to preserve it as is but clean it up a bit and get it back on the road, I'll start posting more as I get into it. Here are a few photos from the day it arrived...

This is not a new issue, This is from the AACA forum back in 2009:

Don, I don't know just what engine work you might be contemplating but I've got some longstanding experience with a 1934 Eight and concur with Flackmaster's caution. If you wish to discuss this by phone, send me a PM with your phone# and suitable dates & times (EST) and I'd be glad to give you a call.

PM sent, I would very much like to talk with you, thanks!

Thanks for the quick responses. David, I will contact Terry Weiss but I was hoping for someone closer to home. Flackmaster, I may be looking at piston / ring replacement and radiator removal, cleanout, or even replacement, if that helps.

Prewar Packard - Service Options in Dallas, Texas Area

Hi to all, this is my first post. I am seriously considering the purchase of a 1934 Packard Eight. I like to do my own car work but have reached the age where I must farm out the big stuff and my main concern is finding service facilities in my area (Dallas, North Texas) that understand such a vehicle and can be trusted to provide dependable service. Can anyone recommend any shops in this area based on personal experience? I would really like to own this car, any help or advice would be appreciated.
