The 1929 Custom 8 has 2 holes on each side of the top portions of the hood. These holes are close to the hinge and one is toward the rear and the other about 5 inches from the front. The rear hole is where one of the hood standoffs attaches. What goes in the forward hole? Also, what is the finish and design of the rear fastener as it shows from the top side. Pictures would be helpful.

I have a 645 7 passenger Sedan. My hood has one of the steel clips intact that fasten exactly where you describe. I am not sure if there were opposing clips on each side as only one of mine has survived. They are one inch wide and made of 1/16 inch steel, attached by a single domed rivet with a 5/16 inch head. It appears the rivet was painted the same color as the hood. My guess is that when the hood closed this clip reached down and wrapped around the hood bar that runs from the firewall to the radiator outlet. Can I ask a favor? I need advice on a replacement exhaust system. Mine has been modified and parts (brackets) are missing. Could you send pictures of the brackets for yours if you know it is original style? Thanks

What you have is the long standoff that is nearest to the cowl. Yours is bent - it should be fully extended straight. There is a shorter one that attaches near the bottom front corner of the lower hood panels that rests on the radiator shell hood lacing when the hood is up. What I am looking for is what the fastener on the top side of the hood looks like for your long standoff. If you need dimensions for the shorter standoff, let me know. There should be 2 holes in your hood where it goes.

I should have read your post more fully. My exhaust system is not original. I had some original brackets and had to fabricate others from what I could see in the parts book. The brackets for a 640 and 645 are different. I think that I might have one or 2 645 brackets (hangers) I will look.

Thanks, I would be very interested in the correct muffler hangers for the 645 if you have them lying around. I have included more photos. These are at the back of the hood near the cowl and they rest on the hood lacing when the hood is up. They are of the same construction as the front one I sent yesterday. They are riveted like the front piece, but the rivets are not domed, they are flattened.

Just to clarify, these are at the back of the hood. I don't have anything at the front of the hood. Not even holes where something previously existed. However, I have learned my car was an early seven passenger sedan (body tag #7), so it may be that they added something to later cars that didn't exist on mine.
