Dear All,

Although I have over 2000 photographs of the disassembly of my 733, I ended up with no photos of the exhaust/muffler/tailpipe routing!

Do any of you nice, talented and good-looking folks have any photos of your 7th series (1930) exhaust system? In particular, I need to know what brackets go where, and where the little spring goes.

Any help will be, as always, very much, super duper, appreciated.

Tom, wish I would have seen your post a few hours earlier, I'm just back from Automotive Restorations (Steve Babinsky's shop) where they're restoring a 7th series for Pebble and could have taken photos, etc. I probably won't be going back for a couple of weeks by which you'll probably have your answer - but if not, I'll try to remember when I go back.

Some really interesting cars at Steve's (as always), 3 cars being restored for Pebble this year plus the usual assortment of great Classics. One that really caught my eye was a 1932 904 closed sedan by Waterhouse, the only closed sedan known by Waterhouse. An interesting prewar cars, an Alfa, several KB and K Lincolns including a Dietrich Lincoln KB coupe, and Classic Packards galore. Also a (VERY RARE) Nash 990 coupe (full Classic). I'll post some pictures of it and others over on PAC and provide a link here later in the day.

PS - almost forgot - and a monster of a T-head MacFarlan!

Thanks tons for those photos. That is very helpful. It looks like some of the brackets have been changed. But if they are in the original spot that should be enough for us to figure out the layout.

Has anyone ever insulated the pipe as it goes under the gas tank. It seems like that would warm the fuel up and potentially contribute to vapor lock.

Never had to insulate a tail pipe around the gas tank, because of it causing vapor lock.

I always make sure to have at least 1 inch or more of clearance between the tail pipe and gas tank.

If you have a concern in that area, a wrap of fiberglass header wrap will help. I've used this on sections of pipe right after the exhaust manifold to keep heat from radiating thru the floorboards and into the drivers compartment. A stainless zip tie on each end keeps things from unraveling.
